Does anybody know what the story is behind the decayed wooden pier like structure that is off to the right of I-10 westbound near the St. Charles/St. John line where it skirts the edge of the lake?

When I was younger I heard a vague story that there was a town or settlement in this area that was wiped out by a hurricane way way back. But I never knew if this was BS or not.

Good question. I've wondered too but never to the point of asking anyone.

This was asked about a month ago. Don't remember the exact answer, but something to do with spillway.

Edit: it may have been on Outdoor board

Frenier is is the name of the old town town that was was wiped out. There is a boat launch, restaurant and handful of houses there now.

I don't know what the old stakes are in Lake Pontchartrain you're talking about. I've seen them, don't think they have any connection to Frenier

It's the old bridge before I-10 was built. It was made of wood.

I always figured it was an old breaker that they got tired of re building

Maybe it was a casino?

I've been told that it was once a cattle chute for cattle, which was loaded/offloaded to rail cars at that location.

Thanks for the input guys.

The stuff on Frenier was interesting. Found a few sites on it from Google after reading the reply above.

I haven't been on that stretch of I-10 in close to ten years, so I don't know what the structure is looking like these days. But back in the 80s, it was a decaying bulkhead with the land washed out behind it. Or at least it looked like an old bulkhead.

I guess it's possible that it's the remnants old an old bridge, as another poster suggested. I don't know the route that the original Hammond Hwy took in that area, but it's at the waterline, or under water, in much of Metairie.
