Shortest holdout ever

quote:

Chiefs signed RB Jamaal Charles to a two-year, $18.1 million contract extension through 2017. So much for that holdout. Charles is now the second-highest paid running back in the league behind Adrian Peterson and is locked up through his age-31 campaign. The Chiefs' first practice is Thursday. On his previous deal, Charles was scheduled to make $3.65 million in salary and bonuses this season. There's a good chance he doubled that on his new contract. And it's well deserved after Charles put the Chiefs' offense on his back and carried them to the playoffs in 2013. Charles is entering his age-28 season. He's a top-three fantasy back.

That's some good coin in today's running back market

NFL running backs are the antithesis of the NBA small forward

I just texted him " Wow..Jamal Charles released by Chiefs". Then linked him to this thread..wondering how he'll react.

I was about to say, that's an impressive contract for a RB in the 2014 NFL. (Impressive for JC, not so much for KC )

Aren't they paying Alex Smith a bunch of money, too?

If I was a Chiefs fan, I'd rather release him than pay that. No NFL RB, including Adrian Peterson, is worth that in today's NFL.

bullshite. Charles is their offense. He's not just a rushing threat, he also added 700 receiving yards and 7 TD catches.

Most RBs in today's game can be easily replaced, Charles is one of the few that cannot.

Adrian Peterson is worth more than that. He hit 2,000 yards rushing in an offense that didn't have a passing threat. Thats absurd.

Charles is a legit dual threat RB, as in run or catch. He has game changing speed as well. He was their entire offense.

I agree with all this.

However if I am a GM, I will hardball the shite out of all my running backs and replace them with a mid round pick every couple of years

And if I get a McCoy/Peterson/Charles talent, I will franchise tag the shite out of them until they are almost 30 and then let them hit the market and have fresh legs replace them.

I'm not hating on him getting that cheese though, go get it, just that's what I would do as the gm

Agreed. Peterson and Charles are absolutely worth this money. What Peterson has done without a passing game is remarkable.
