Apparently the IRS has managed to "find" the backup tapes that everyone claimed had been "recycled":

LINK /

Over/under on how many days before we're told that the backup tapes are "unreadable"?

Depends on how long until they find an industrial magnet to wipe them.

Probably placed into the care of Rose Mary Woods' granddaughter.

Isn't it more likely that they've been reviewed and damaging stuff has already been deleted?

Interpretation:

the negotiators have finalized a deal with LL to be the scapegoat.

These tapes aren't exactly easy to manipulate at the specific file level given my experience with them.

You can wipe the whole tape or kill the index to brick it, but it would seem pretty damn hard to go through there and wipe individual files within a tape.

Well a funny thing happened with those tapes we just found... We had someone in Cincinnati gather them all up to bring to Congress, but on his was he stopped by the hospital to visit his sick mom. Well she was having an MRI and he brought the tapes with him, not thinking, to protect them and apparently, they magnet wiped them clean...

even if you could, magentic tapes are easy to look at for evidence of tampering.

Correction:

The Powers That Be have finally had time to go over the data and verify that nothing that could incriminate the President is there.

And the saga continues...

I think that Issa has blundered this entire process, but his frick-ups and hard headedness has led to the IRS officials doing complete 180's. Its the merry go round that doesn't stop.

That I can agree with, at least that they *think* there is nothing that can hurt them on there.

I figure that Gowdy could have some fun cross-referencing Lerner's contacts on this set of investigations with the WH visitor logs. That wouldn't be concrete evidence but would be enough to open the investigation further.

It will be interesting to see if they adopt the DOJ tactic "We will hand over the info WE deem relevant to the investigation".

Doing that after hemming and hawing for so long about Lerner's hard drive and the backup tapes would open them up to a colonoscopy by Congress and the courts investigating the matter.

The truth was never and will never come out.... But throughout all of this, the IRS and associated personal have provided enough circumstantial evidence for anyone with a brain to know that something dirty went on.

Now whether that made it to the President, doubtful... But someone within his circle was involved and I would bet it was Jarret.
