Interview: Aaron Freeman: Life After Gene Ween

Future doesn't look too promising for Ween fans:

quote:

So, these days, how are your relationships with the members of the band going?

I haven’t heard a peep from anybody. It’s kind of weird, but it’s cool. Go figure. It doesn’t keep me up at night, but it’s one of those things where there must have been a lot of strong feelings and deep, deep stuff going on because … nothing. I think that’s just part of everybody’s process of going through change.

I hate to say it... but I kind of enjoy the songs I've heard so far :/

From all the past interviews I've read they will never get back together. Lots of hate in Aaron regarding ween.

I felt pretty bad for him reading that article. The dude obviously has some major substance and psychological issues. Can you really blame him for removing himself from the situation?

I am going to check his show out in October. I hope the Dean Ween Band makes it down here at some point as well (although I am not too sure about his hardcore, GG Allin-wannabe lead singer). I do have hope that we will see Ween again someday, albeit it may be strictly for financial reasons. Whatevs, I'll take it.

No doubt about that. He did what was better for himself and I respect that.

What is bullshite is how he left the band. How he completely cut off Mickey and still chooses to do so. How he trashed the band in a couple of interviews. And frick him for saying Gener is his past and he has closed the door on Ween, yet he still plays fricking Ween songs.

But it's tough for me because I will always have so much love for Ween. I'll still selfishly see him live when he comes into town, but I'll be rockin a giant fricking boognish.

I didn't know the Dean Ween Group was coming through. My best shot looks to be FoCO. Thanks for the heads up heady

Taylor Swift should write a song about this.

I'm a big fan of Ween, but I don't really follow all that other more personal stuff associated with the band. All I know is that Gener had been having issues with substance abuse for a while now. Was he really that big of a dick when the band split or are people just upset that it had to end?

Gener's side of the story

Ween

quote:

Back when you spoke to Rolling Stone in 2012 and broke up the band, what was going on with you at the time that you felt it was a good way to go about things?

It’s all actually a little retarded in the end. Basically, Ween was dark, and I know for my ex-bandmates, we all read the writing on the wall long before that. I had just got home from rehab, and I was of a sane mind. I got this call, and my manager was like, “There’s this Australian Rolling Stone, and they want to do a Marvelous Clouds interview with you.” I had already done like 10 Marvelous Clouds interviews, and I was really sick of it. So, the dude calls me, and he’s like (in Australian accent), “So, how you doing? Taking off the Gene Ween mask for this one, aye?” I was like, frick you, no Gene Ween mask, I’m putting it down, blah blah blah. A wire broke and that was it. I got off the phone and was thinking frick, I gotta tell Mickey, but I got like one or two weeks at least because this is fricking Australian Rolling Stone. For god sakes, it’s gonna take at least two weeks to get across the Pacific Ocean.

Anyways, I go back and I was cleaning the leaves out of the gutters or something; it was literally like a day later, and I got this call like, “Did you look, have you looked on the internet?” I turned on the computer and I’m looking and it’s like, GENE WEEN FROM WEEN QUITS WEEN IN ROLLING STONE AND DOESN’T TELL MICKEY. I’m freaking out. At that point, there was nothing I could do, and I was just as shocked and stunned as everybody else. I guess Mickey wrote that thing, and it was fricking like A team versus B team, and all of the sudden I’m like a total fricking dick with all these Ween fans. Trust me, I was just as blown away. I’m not trying to make excuses; I just really thought that I had a little more time than 24 hours to talk to anybody. That was it. It’s not like I wanted it to not happen. I just didn’t expect it that way.

Yeah, that's pretty fricked up. Dude has maturity issues. I'm still planning on seeing his show when he comes to NOLA.
