St. Louis Cards Fans: What is your opinion of Taveras at this point?

Should the Cardinals include Taveras in a trade for someone like David Price or Cliff Lee?

Is Taveras a bust...or is it too early to tell? What is going on with this guy?

Way too early to tell but I think it's a wait and see situation. He's shown some potential so we ll see

I'd be willing to part with him for Price (assuming he signs an extension) but not Lee

Not a bust. Too early to tell. Now granted he is a much bigger prospect than Matt Carpenter or Allen Craig, but neither of those guys hit during their first stint in the big leagues.

Having said that, I'm not opposed to including him in a deal for David Price as long as the Cards would get multiple years out of him. There is a log jam in the outfield and they can afford to part with some pieces.

He has 79 major league at bats under his belt.

I was at Busch Stadium for Taveras's first game and saw him hit his first homerun. It was a damn near magical moment!

Three Giants fans were sitting behind us sort of talking innocent smack about the Cardinals all game long until Taveras hit his homerun.

The stadium erupted in raucous celebration and those three mouthy Giants fans sat down and were quiet for the rest of the game.

There are countless examples of this. Hell look at Kolten Wong last year to this year. Hell even the beginning of this year he was sent down but I doubt anyone would argue he hasn't figured it out now. It obviously has "clicked" with him

Same thing could happen with Oscar

Or he could be the next Pete Kozma

Man idk, I guess for Price we could do Martinez/Taveras/some guy in the minors

Idk if that would get him though, we might have to include Miller which I would be ok with normally but our rotation depth is so bad right now bc of injuries idk that we should

Without Martinez and Miller who fills those 2 holes? I guess Price/ Wacha (when he returns which I figure will be on about a month)

ETA: also FTR I think it's time we all start living with the assumption that Garcia will never pitch again

If somehow Darvish became available, would you consider Taveras in a trade for him?

Would the Cards even consider Darvish?

Are you proposing Tavares for Darvish straight up? I don't see the rangers taking that but yeah I'd make that trade

Then I'd pray like hell Darvish stayed healthy

This. Not everyone is Mike Trout. Heck, even Trout's first ABs back in 2011 were far from special.

Would they "consider" Darvish for Taveras?

They'd cream in their pants.

You are terrible.

I don't think even Jon the Moron would do that.

But if you could make a deal whereby Darvish and Tavares are the main pieces, maybe add Shelby and either Profar or Odor as well, in?

He's been OK health-wise (not great but not as bad as some), and in the NL he'll probably be more rested since CG's aren't as common (late in games he'd be pinch hit).

Taveras and Miller isn't enough to land Darvish and you want to add either Profar or Odor to the deal? Are you kidding me? Profar and Taveras are on the same level as far as prospects are concerned so you'd basically want to trade Darvish for Miller straight up. Just stop with the nonsense.

You realize what kind of contract Darvish is on? It will cost the moon to acquire him.

Darvish can become an FA after next year if he finishes in the top 3 of Cy Young voting both of the next two years, or wins it in either one. The former is almost expected.

Given the Rangers have to eat bad contracts for the next 6-8 years (Prince for 6, Choo for 6, and Elvis' new 8-year deal starts next year), plus Darvish's opt-out clause, how much CAN they get for someone who would be under club control for the rest of this year and next AT MOST?

I'm simply trying to see what Darvish could command at this stage from a team that could use another pitcher, and has something the Rangers need (a CF, Martin isn't getting it done), but given that he doesn't have as long a deal as what is believed.

Man, some people try to call players a bust way too soon.

He's played in 25 games, that's like me saying Singleton is a bust....who's played in 41 games. You have to give these guys time to get adjusted.
