I get a call from a cute sounding girl today trying to sell me on one of these "custom" suits. Seems legit: Tom James

What's the OT's experience on quality, choices, construction and price?

how are the consultations? As thorough as advertised. i.e. will the really take inventory of your wardrobe and make suggestions?

Yes but you most likely won't get the cute girl that you heard on the phone.

I got the cute girl, but still couldn't figure out how to justify buying one of those suits.

I've been buying their stuff for over 10 years. I'm a fan. They are a bit slow to incorporate newer cuts, but I still have sport coats and suits that are in rotation, even after 10 years. High quality.

You can spend from a low of about $1100/suit to upwards of $5K. I like to keep it $1000-2000/suit and I am very happy with them. Cannot beat custom fitting, esp. if you have trouble finding stuff that fits the right way.

Damn. the ole bait and switch. She said suits start at $650 and shirts at $135. I want a custom suit but can't justify the expense.

Yeah, I hear this but again, can't justify that on clothes. Guns and boats, yes. clothes--not so much

If you're in New Orleans or Baton Rouge go to George Bass and have a Samuelsohn made for the same price. Much, much better suit. I want to like Tom James because they also own Oxxford, but I just can't. Another option for near the Tom James price: Oxxford's 1220 line.

Dude just go down the street and see Manuel and be done with it. You know what you will get with him
