Ole War Skule Spelling

Just curious...why is it "ole" like "Ole Miss" and not "old?" Also is it supposed to be "school" or "skull?" Skule seems like they are splitting the middle. Just curious

That's probably true. Apparently, in the old days, intellectuals would hang out & pass a good time by sitting around, spelling things the way they think dumb people would. Legend has it that's where the term "OK" originated. It was supposedly an adaptation of "oll korrect", the way a dullard would have spelled "all correct".

Born and raised. Spelling just seemed off and I wanted an explanation.
