Are we still a government of the people, by the people, and for the people?

I mean, do you feel that this government , not just this administration, but the government on a whole embodies the words Lincoln uttered and the government serves the people, or another interest? If not, then what, and when did it go awry?

No. We are witnessing a government for the government by the government. The voting public is merely a pawn for their agenda.
America doesn't stand for anything anymore with this administration.

It really went wrong a long time ago. States retaining their sovereignty were a huge check on federal govt power. with that natural stop no longer in place the fed has nothing to stop it.

I tend to believe our Federal government has become so all powerful in our lives that it serves it's own personal financial interests and agendas driven by the UN and other foreign pressures.
For whatever reason, I truly do not feel like the people are anything more than an inconvenient stumbling block government has to placate and get around to accomplish much larger agendas and line their pockets and lust for more and more power and control, because after money, power and control is an age old powerful addiction that's as personally satisfying as anything money can buy. To be your master and have people worship you.

FIFY: Are we still a government of the corporations, by the corporations , and for the corporations

No. I don't think Lincoln even truly believed the words he uttered.

Beat me to the punch.

Perhaps, but it still is the basic reasoning for independence in the first place.

States rights weren't given away they were taken away by force.

This.

frick no. Between the fedgov overstepping it's powers and shitting on states rights, and our fricking scumbag politicians exempting themselves from laws that the little people have to abide by, we're fricked. Time for a revolution.

As of this December, for the past 101 years ...absolutely not.
Also, as long as our Congress and political system can be bought through money/perks lobby, we don't stand a chance.

This, first and foremost. We are now a government by the people who control the government. Until this changes, we don't have much hope of anything getting better.
Oh, and for the record, corporations ARE people. Refer to the Supreme Court for clarification.

Every president makes a statement like that.

You don't have to sell me. I know, and Lincoln saying that when he did in spite of the consent of the governed in those states he invaded pretty much says it all.
That being said, it is the first and most fundamental grievance laid out in the Declaration of Independence, and about the most American of Ideals there are. Truth be known, I think the Irony of Lincoln saying it and what that war eventually did to states rights and the will of the people to decide their own government may very well be the beginning of the end.
