University of Wisconsin calls for distribution of higher grades for minorities

Especially shocking is the language about “equity” in the distribution of grades. Professors, instead of just awarding the grade that each student earns, would apparently have to adjust them so that academically weaker, “historically underrepresented racial/ethnic” students perform at the same level and receive the same grades as academically stronger students.

Apparently the solution to minority problems is overt racism toward whites and asians

IF this is true (a big IF considering alot of the sources linked on this board) this is total lunacy.

Honest question: How do they decide who is a minority? Is it just based on self reporting? I'm white, but I might start claiming something else, maybe Hispanic.

That's fricking retarded. So much for meritocracy I suppose.

If true, I have absolutely no problem with this whatsoever. This will do nothing but set these kids up for failure later in life and give them a false sense of accomplishment that will hurt them in the working world. It will also ruin the credibility of a UW degree.

Especially unsurprising and unshocking and in fact normal for bloggers of this intellect is the fact the blogger did not use direct quotation from the text to support this claim.

The greater danger is when unqualified affirmative action benefactors are pushed beyond just fake grades and academic accolades, we have a bumbling fool community organizer in the worlds most important leadership position

Yes, I am also very suspicious that this piece is not an accurate representation of what is going on. Probably meant more for riling people up (success).

Why do you discount the truth of it? Colleges like Wisc and UC and UT have been trying to circumvent aff action rulings by the Supreme Court for 20 years. Have you not been paying attention?

Been a lot of horrible decisions made in Madison lately..

“proportional participation of historically underrepresented racial-ethnic groups at all levels of an institution, including high status special programs, high-demand majors, and in the distribution of grades.”
I'm sorry I assumed most posters were semi-literate enough to click the link before making asinine comments, but I forget about the mouth breathers like yourself on the board.

Like I said, I'm not sure this is entirely true. But, policies like this do the exact opposite of their intended purpose. They create animosity and skepticism towards minorities' accomplishments.

I'm sorry I'm a little bit hesitant in believing minorities will have a totally different grading scale than whites, as this piece insinuates. Skepticism is a good thing, no?

Just know this. If you interview someone for a job and if they are young, look at their education and ask questions that someone with that major should know. You will be amazed at the number of blank stares you will get. You will be amazed at the number of people that just studied for a test and then forgot what they learned. You will be amazed at the number of people that think they should get a job because they dress nice and have the appropriate degree.
You will also find that diamond who actually remembers what he learned in school and appears to have most of everything else you would want in an employee.

It is. And this committee only met to form other committees and wrote a report that will require other reports to be written. It's a university.
