I certainly hope the city isn't funding or loaning funds for any significant amount. That entire region of Michigan needs to just be fricking dumptrucked and rebooted. People, politicians, and all.

Nice arena, but I didn't know unicorn farts and Chrysler 300s could pay for arenas.

I read an article yesterday, but it's from a while back, apparently dan Gilbert has been buying up downtown Detroit left and right, paying like $7 a square foot. Owns a whole shitload of the city.

When/if it turns around, he'll be sultan of Brunei rich.

Continued revitalization? Yeah, that's exactly what it needs.

Close enough to Cheli's, good location. Might try to make a game in the opening season.

You must not know of the Ilitch family. Mike Ilitch is worth roughly $2.7 billion.

They've been using it for years in the playoffs.

What's with the Louisiana jealously every time someone builds a new stadium?

Detroit is a bankrupt city so hopefully the city isn't financing a new stadium when it's been shown that stadiums don't spur economic development. I wouldn't call that jealousy. Also, I know that sometime in the next 25-35 years the Saints will start wanting a new stadium again, and I would like to see a decrease in the frequency of public money being used to finance stadiums for billionaire owners before that time. I think that's a practical way of looking at the future of our team and city, not jealousy.
