Who does this prove shot it down? Russian Separatists? Russian Regulars? Ukranians?

Sounds like its a call between the separatists... They thought they were shooting down a military plane in the area and it was MH17.

Whomever the general is (Maybe Russian?) says "Don't they know this is a war area, why are they flying here"

It basically clears the Ukranians... Now its just down to whether Russia was involved or not.

Both men in that call are CURRENT Russian military officers. The one making the call is leading the rebel cause, the other is a Russian Major.

Correct. Its the leader of the pro-Russia seperatists calling a Russian Major. This should tell you that the Russian's have in fact given the rebels SAM's! That isnt good news for Russia. They should be held responsible for this act of terrorism. Putin knows they are in a bad position and has now called for a an all out ceasefire. Thats rich lol

It's pretty condemning on Russia. I'm not really sure how the relations between the separatists and the Russia's works. It seems as though the separatists are almost an unofficial branch of the Russian military being lead my Russian military officials, commanded by them, trained by them and supplied with Their weapons

Hell maybe it it's an official part, I don't really know enough honestly

Agreed. As if anyone not associated with Russia didn't already assume the Separatists or the Russians (really the same thing) shot the plane down already.

Oh, there is no doubt that they have provided arms to the separatists.

But the US has provided arms to questionable groups too. This is a horrible fricking situation all the way around.

There's an article on this situation this morning which I found interesting.

It says that Putin may still end up winning what he wants in Ukraine, given how unlikely US or European military intervention will be, but that this will end up costing Russia FAR more as long as he's in power, as this now makes Russia an international pariah.

The idea is that Russia may end up being frozen out of a lot of things because this confirms the image of the country as being run by a bunch of murderous thugs.

Not that there was much doubt before to people who were paying attention, but killing 300+ civilians and there being proof that your own guys tried to justify it by saying "Well, they were all spies! Why else were they flying over a war zone?" kind of kills any slack that would have been given to them.

Thats about all that can be done. No nation is going to go over there and engage the Russians in a military conflict.

Obama apologized for upsetting the Russians. America shrugged and went back to their video games.

No shite.. I tell you one thing, this incident is helping to identify and categorize the whackos of the board.

Seems like there are fewer and fewer people on this board that are objective in their thinking

There are a hardcore handful from either side that post here that make me just sigh and close the tab.

I though it was pretty well known that the backbone of the "separatists" was comprised of Russian regular army with no identifiers on their clothing.
