Do you do a factory restore after major updates on smart phones?

I usually don't but after I update my note 3 to kitkat, my battery life went to shite and I noticed quite a bit more lag in the phone.

I did a factory reset yesterday and it's looking like I got my good battery life back and phone is running wayyyy smoother... I guess this could be because my phone has way less shite on it now but things are looking up.

Interesting. I'm gonna have to try this. My note has been miserable since update in regards to battery.

Did you back up or start from scratch

From scratch. All I wanted back was contacts & photos.

Let me know if it works for you

I was trying to trade this thing off but I think I'll keep it now

I've never had to do this personally, but a clean install seems to yield the fewest issues regardless of device.

Yeah, it's a bit of a PITA but I always do a factory reset after an update. I also do a clear cache every month or so with the volume up, home, and power button.

Yah it's A PITA but my battery life has doubled and is back to how it was with jellybean. I had been having to charge mid day at work and today I got off with 50% still remaining.

What exactly does this do? Are there any cons to it?

The clear cache? Same as with your computer, it cleans it up, gts rid of junk files, and should help it with battery a little as well. No cons that I know of o ever experienced. Different phones have different ways of getting to the clear cache screen. I have a Note 2 for now.
