Does anyone recall why only 5 those seasons and 6 before and after until 88 went to 7, and of course 8 at the 92 merger.
Memory is fuzzy from then (and bored waiting for opener).
I know we went 5-0 and won it 70 and 4-1 the 69 Arch loss and non Cotton Bowl year.
TIA!

Pre-merger the SEC didn't exercise control over schedules, and teams were on their own in deciding who to play. So some teams would play 5 conference games, some 6.

Gotcha
And we played 5 just those seasons and then decided to go back to 6; I guess for game revenue reason came into play.
Also, went to 11 games for 70 season.
