If not yet, you will be someday. The business to be in is insurance that offers Medicare supplement coverage. I get a phone call about every 15 minutes from a company wanting to beat my lowest premium quote. The government must be paying these companies well for them to be so rabid about getting the business.

One more year and I will be old enough. Starting to research different options for part C or supplemental. What a confusing mess!

Very confusing. Are you an AARP member?

Part C is strange. Only a handful of companies offer it in Louisiana and most charge $0 premium. Certainly there is a big catch here as I am sure you must purchase that companies supplemental plan. Not sure because I haven't researched it and know you cannot get something for nothing. Also, as a home health nurse I am familiar with the majority of companies offering Part C and would not want any of them managing (being the gatekeeper) my care. I have witnessed many instances of denial of care where care was truly warranted.

ETA: if you are in GA you may have better Part C options than Louisiana.

Part C = Medicare Advantage = Parts A+B + D
Part D is prescription drugs where the donut hole is. I will have huge drug costs from now on so drug coverage is really important.
The advantage plans vary by state & county/ parish. In my county we have 6 Advantage plans and 4 of those are Humana.
No AARP for me, I went with AMAC.

And, depending on your situation you may qualify for state assistance for drug coverage. I had a few home health patients that at a certain point could not afford medications and found they were qualified for assistance.

Several drug manufacturers offer medication at a much reduced cost and some at no cost.

Medicare isn't just for those over the age of 65. Those with certain disabilities collecting social security can be on medicare as well regardless of age.

The only catch is that you must maintain your medicare part B payment. Thats it.

Medicare Advantage (Part C) is a no premium policy in alot of places and many of them come with an included Part D plan. Not all are premium free, but that plans you are eligible for are based on the address/parish/county you have registered with social security.

Medcare Advantage plans get reimbursed from CMS (gubment) to administer your care. It used to be they got paid $___ per month per member, but with changes to the healthcare system, they now get paid based on how sick a patient is. The more sick, the higher the payment because the more resources they use, as long as it is properly documented by the doctors and can be proven. If not, you have what appears to be healthy patients and over-utlization.
