Saw this article in the Advocate today where a donladsonville man was ordered to serve out an unfulfilled 2year sentence stemming from a negligent homicide conviction over 20 years ago that was never served due to a screw up by governmental officials.

The article goes on to say the man, who was 19 at the time, went on to college, got his degree, and hasn't been in trouble with the law since his conviction 19 years ago.

Feel bad for the family of the deceased, but I just don't see the point of this guy being forced to serve his time now.

Did you see the part about the baby that died was sitting on someone's lap?

I just read that. Also just read that White had a blood-alcohol content of 0.09 percent, which at the time was lower than the state’s threshold for presumptive drunken driving.

quote:

He owes it to this dead girl, and he owes it to her family,” Assistant Attorney General David Weilbaecher Jr. told LeBlanc at the May 3, 2013, hearing.

Seems to me that maybe this child's parents should be the ones serving time instead.

Looks like the First Circuit is going to make White serve his sentence after all.

The guy here in St Louis was released from jail in a similar situation. But they still made him go to jail while it was being sorted out.
