DAT: Crossfit Edition!

lets take a moment to talk about our favorite hometown 9. recent news being reported this week is that 1st overall pick Brady Aiken (still unsigned) may have a left elbow injury concerned related to his Crossfit training. apparently Aiken has been doing cross fit for several years. Aiken's agent Casey Close has stated that the astros have now offered him $3.4 M which is the lowest possible amount they can offer him and still be eligible for the compensation of the #2 overall pick in the 2015 draft should Aiken not sign.
In other news, there have been tweets between unsigned 6th and 21st round picks Jacob Nix and Mac Marshall saying "big things are happening soon" and "band of brothers"…some think this could mean Aiken will sign cheaper and allow them to pay both Nix and Marshall away from their commitments at UCLA and LSU.
The deadline to sign draft picks is Friday night.

Sounds like things are getting nasty between Aiken's agent and the Astros. He says the Astros are operating with a complete disregard of rules governing the draft. I'm not totally convinced the the FO isn't trying to play the Correa game and get Aiken on the cheap in order to lock up guys like Nix and Marshall. And their strategy on that seems to be harping on a maybe, maybe not injury.

it kind of looks that way. would you take Nix, Marshall and the possible #1 and #2 or #2 and #3 picks next year? wouldn't be a bad result.
The only tricky part is you have to wonder if Nix and Aiken go together since they are both tied to UCLA. I think Marshall will sign with Houston is they give him $2m

Nix is not officially signed. they are waiting on Aiken's money to figure out how much they can offer him/Marshall

Nix agreed, but hasn't signed.
Aiken has to sign so they can have the extra money to sign nix and not get penalized and lose a draft pick

I don't see Aiken signing for nearly half of what his previous agreement was especially if he doesn't agree with the "injury concerns"…I don't see him signing for less than 5.

As an astros and LSU fan, I am hoping the stros don't sign him. LSU needs him more at this point.

He Astros wouldn't make up an injury. For there to be this much heat, something is wrong with his elbow.
It would be extremely risky for him to go to college and risk his arm being completely fricked and never getting drafted again. 3.4 million is still top 15 money.

Doesn't work that way. Nix and Marshall were considered hard signs. Moreso on Marshall. What the FO is trying to do is sign Aiken cheaper than slot and then use those savings in order to sign Nix and Marshall to over slot deals. If the Astros fail to sign Aiken then you don't have any "savings" to use on the other 2. The process is you have a certain amount of money slotted for each pick. It has to be devoted to that pick. Any left over can be spent elsewhere but if you spend none on the pick it was allotted for, you can't use any of it on other players.

People I know that do crossfit think it's the greatest thing ever. People that criticize it say it does more harm than good to your body. Seems sketchy to me

so its going to be all or nothing basically unless Nix takes slot. still don't think Nix will sign if Aiken doesn't.

I'm pretty sure it's been proven that crossfit can cause serious injuries.
Y'all should head over to the rant. They think there is a full conspiracy among the Astros and that there is no injury what so ever and the Astros are just trying to screw LSU out of Mac Marshall
