Gonzalo Higuain wishes he could be so lucky.

:drums:

And then he blasts his wish wide.

: amIright :

Concussions might be an issue in footballing sports.

I couldn't believe he stayed in considering how badly he got rocked. If Twellman thought Mascherano's shot to the head was bad he must have had a coronary when he saw Kramer staying on.

Yeah there needs to be something done about concussions. There were head injury issues involving Kramer, Pereira, and one other player who I can't remember right now, and all three should not have been allowed back on the pitch. Hopefully FIFA will get serious about head injuries.

Mascherano got knocked out following a 50/50 challenge. Wijnaldum had to break Mascherano's fall after Mascherano tried to get up too fast. Then Wijnaldum yelled at the ref to get the medical team on the field.

Yeah I put that in the Bayern thread. I really hope he's OK. He needs to take time

I was shocked they let him back on TBH.

Once he got up and you could see how glassy eyed he was my first thought was he was concussed.

Maybe I'm just sensitive to the issue b/c I got three of them playing football (American) in high school but it sure seemed to me like they gave that knock no second thought.

People can blame FIFA or doctors, but it's the fricking World Cup. I would be exactly like Kramer, and almost every competitive athlete in the world would. World Cup Final, only way I'm going off is if I literally can't go on. Hence like Kramer.

I'm older than some (not really that old but this is a college kid's website), and I knew people who got knocked out in games and kept playing. I am sure I had 1 or 2, but it just wasn't really checked 10-15 years ago. Not every headache, or head knock is a concussion

I don't think drinking all the Bitburg in celebration helped his brain condition either.

This is pretty much the least surprising thing ever. Dude had no fricking clue where he was

Y'all got a video of this? I missed that game. Rough game for Javi considering he also tore his butthole.

Which is why it can't be up to the player or anyone connected to the team.

They need independent doctors to do the mental status exams.

I also like the idea of having a temporary sub to replace the player who is potentially concussed. That way there's less pressure to immediately get the player back into the game.

I remember watching it real time and I thought he got a concussion and was knocked out for a second. The way he fell was the awkward, knocked out position.

He looked really bad, cant believe they sent him back in. Then he was holding back puke when he was walking off for good. That was the mother of all concussions right there.

In theory I like that idea but it would never work imo. I think it would be abused and players will get examined for 'concussion' just to get a rest.

Was it the Nigerian player who fought off the doctors who were calling for him to be subbed and went back in?

I get what you're saying, but there is always a stoppage for head injuries anyway. It should be pretty obvious if someone hit their head or not.

It's insane that any of those trainers and coaches, given how they're all connected to people who have access to the replays being shown, made the call to send him back in. Complete bullshite.

When you arrive to the scene of a head injury your first words are "what happened?" If they can't tell ya, they're done. Absolutely no chance he knew what happened.

In boxing that was a knockout. There is no way he could have gotten to his feet within a 10 count. It is almost criminal to allow players to stay in the game after suffering that type of blow.
