NFP Saints Preview

solid analysis HERE
I disagree that Hawthorne & Lofton had their best years. Otherwise, decent coverage from a national writer.
Outlook:
Three of those teams have very good NFL quarterbacks and that being said, the team that stays the healthiest will win the division. One thing is certain: Whoever wins the division will be a damn good football team. Opening day will tell us a lot, as the Saints visit Atlanta to start the season.
What is odd about the Saints’ schedule is that three of their first four games are on the road. Something tells me that there are people in the league office who are still a little angry with New Orleans.

After sooooooo many years of this can they just stop?

the inside linebackers are Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne. They both enjoyed perhaps their best seasons a year ago under new coordinator Rob Ryan.
I think both have seen their better days.
Nice to see ya Blu

Wasn't it a similar situation for us in '09?

I wonder if the 2nd year under Rob Ryan will see any improvements from them.
it seemed like both of them played better in the playoffs. Lofton was flying around a lot more in the playoff game vs. SEA and so was Hawthorne I thought.
their effort against the Eagles in the wildcard round was the best effort all year I thought. Shady McCoy really wasn't a factor.

I'm still hoping Humber and Reddick make a push this off-season.

Would like to see some comp at ILB as well. Hoping Khairi Fortt can step up and push the two starters. Nice speed sideline to sideline as he looks good on film but dealt with some injuries.
Reddick and Fortt would be a nice infusion of youth at ILB and a huge aid to successful loomising.

I'm not expecting to see much of Fortt this season since he's a rookie and I'm pretty sure he was injured when he was drafted.

Humber has shown signs here and there.
wonder what they'll have Ronald Powell doing on defense in camp and during preseason.
apparently he played different positions at Florida.
had trouble staying healthy but did have an impact when he played.

I thought it noteworthy that a national writer (and former Scouting Director) mentioned both Powell and Fortt. Think on this diff...
Before Payton I used to cringe knowing the Saints had to overpay to get free agents here. We were more accustomed to busts than upside surprises for draft picks. Now, they pick up some guy ya might never had heard of and my thoughts are "Wonder if this might be another gem?". Payton doesn't just preach next man up. Over these past 8 seasons we have seen numerous players out of nowhere become solid contributors. This time last year I had to look up where West Texas A&M was. Now I'm contemplating whether Khiry Robinson is a 1000yd runner.
No organization is perfect but the Saints are certainly now in the upper crust of teams in player development IMO.
--and hey ya'll paradise is dayum nice. I am venturing into some futbol edumucation at my new home. My new backyard...

I'm okay with this. It just means that we will get more games at home later in the season when playoff implications start to rear their heads.

Looking at ex-pat myself in 5, 10 years tops. My buddy did it and loves it, I've been to visit every year for the last 3 years. Looks like the only way to make retirement affordable now.

it ain't for everyone but if it fits ya it is a great option. Being able to visit someone and get first hand info/insight is a big plus.
For many the initial impetus is financial. There's no denying how great that is. Coming to my first 90 days of expatriation the most refreshing thing is more the cultural differences. It is freeing to get away from the 24/7 endless media barrage. Children can walk the streets alone without fear. Teenagers walk arm in arm with their parents and grandparents. Business is person to person and cash. There's only marginal corporate presence and influence. Most business is on a personal level and transactions are with cash.
/end of hijack but it is pretty damn cool
