Norfolk is a nice town. Picture of the blatant racism in the link.
The U.S. Department of Justice has sent a member of its Community Relations Service team to investigate a Nebraska parade float that criticized President Obama.
A Fourth of July parade float featured at the annual Independence Day parade in Norfolk sparked criticism when it depicted a zombie-like figure resembling Mr. Obama standing outside an outhouse, which was labeled the “Obama Presidential Library.”
The Nebraska Democratic Party called the float one of the “worst shows of racism and disrespect for the office of the presidency that Nebraska has ever seen.”
The Omaha World-Herald reported Friday that the Department of Justice sent a CRS member who handles discrimination disputes to a Thursday meeting about the issue.
Also at the meeting were the NAACP, Norfolk mayor Sue Fuchtman and the Norfolk Odd Fellows, which coordinated the parade.
The float’s creator, Dale Remmich, has said the mannequin depicted himself, not President Obama. He said he is upset with the president’s handling of the Veterans Affairs Department, the World-Herald reported.

Outstanding use of resources. Every CRS investigating stuff like this is one less CRS doing anything useful (setting aside the impertinent question as to whether any CRS in DOJ does anything useful).

Well there isn't a smidgeon of work for these guys to do, so they must investigate this.

Maybe that team can reveal to Nebraska's governor the location and plan of action for the 200 illegal children snuck into the state by the Obama administration while they're at it.

Lots of terrible depictions of GWB were paraded around while he was in office. This is a terrible use of resources, but doesn't surprise me. This administration is looking more like Stalin's regime every day.

Never knew shitters were racist.

Boy are these folks asleep at the wheel.....there have been innumerable floats over the past few Mardi Gras's making fun of that jackass. Most of them being 10x worse than that.....but hey how bout that freedom of speech.

I've never understood why this logical fallacy is so common. I can't respect an office, it has done nothing to earn my respect because it just exists and does nothing, the holder of the office is the one that has to earn that respect and is the one using the tools of the office of the presidency.

Yes, and we were told incessantly that "dissent is the highest form of patriotism," or some such nonsense. Now, dissent is rewarded with cries of racism and Holder's gestapo being sent after you.

Investigate? What exactly will they be looking for?

Whoever in the DOJ decided this rose to the level of requiring a full blown investigation needs fired.

Can't be critical of the president? The DOJ would hate to hear my deer camp in the fall.

Sad isn't it.
If people actually had a clue as to what freedom of speech really is (or isn't, in this case), they'd be furious.
you, Holder.

I'm looking at the Original posters source articles from Omaha.com the word investigate never comes up. People have to put just a little spin on things sometimes for ratings.
Justice Department enters fray over 4th of July parade float in Norfolk
'Obama Presidential Library' float at Norfolk parade sparks controversy
Man behind 'Obama Presidential Library' float says mannequin wasn't depicting president
I also tried to do a quick Google search on the CRS ,but I haven't found like a real life example of what they do. Just a bunch of inquiries asking for their assistance when something racial, religious, or sexist happens.
I'm not entirely sure wtf the Community Relation Service does. They don't have any legal authority to do anything. Didn't know they existed until this article.
Department of Justice (CRS)
quote:
WHAT WE DO The Community Relations Service (CRS) helps local communities address tension associated with allegations of discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin. CRS also helps communities develop the capacity to more effectively prevent and respond to violent hate crimes committed on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or disability. CRS provides impartial and confidential conciliation services intended to enhance local capacity to alleviate, solve, and respond to future conflicts more effectively. CRS is a non-enforcement and non-prosecutorial component of the U.S. Department of Justice.
quote:
HOW WE DO IT T rained impartial CRS conflict resolution specialists are stationed in 10 Regional and 4 local field offices across the country. CRS is available to provide services when requested by local authorities, community leaders, or whenever potentially volatile community tensions requiring our intervention develop. For each situation, CRS will first assess the situation, which includes hearing everyone’ s perspective. After gaining a comprehensive understanding of the situation, CRS will fashion an agreement between stakeholders on the services to be provided to help resolve the conflict or prevent further tension. Conciliation services include facilitation of dialogue, mediation of conflict, training and consulting through technical assistance. CRS then convenes the stakeholders to deliver its services.
My best bet is that they do is get all parties who are butt hurt together to talk about their problems and sing kumbayah or something. They don't really seem to investigate anything.
