Serious question about Arkansas Football #Spinoff

What are realistic expectations if you're an avid Arkansas Football fan (of sound mind)? And this is 2 part... In general, with regard to tradition what are the expectations and with regard to the current state of the program what are the expectations?
Traditionally, I'd say finish top 3 in the SEC WEST and possibly represent the west in Atlanta.
Currently, I'd say 7 or 8 win and win a bowl game.

It depends on the schedule/what we have coming back. Im fine with 8-10 wins.
I would like to win the west every 3 to 4 years.
This years schedule is brutal. Vegas had the line at 4.5 wins. Ill be happy with just 5 wins this year considering everything.

It would be so crazy if we had an sec board that talked about this kind of stuff.

Its easy to say yall should be good, but look at the division you play in. That's 3 or 4 losses every year. Yall got to sweep the East and nonconference just to go to a good bowl

First off, frick Bert and for hiring him.
Kinda feel for Arky. Good news is Petrino will be on the market in a year anyway.

We've actually done better than expected against LSU and Auburn most years. Since 2000 our record against Auburn is 7-7 and we are 5-9 vs. LSU with the average margin of victory being TWO points in the series, so almost all of them were nail biters.
It's easy to look on paper and see 3 guaranteed losses every year but that's not always how it has played out. We won't beat them consistently but we generally have better talent than people give us credit for in the preseason

Arkansas is below .500, at close to the quater century mark in SEC play. As much as they want to shite on Houston Nutt he has more SEC wins than other 7 head coaches Arkansas has had combined, while in the SEC.
Once they get their ship right they should be able to average 6.5-8 wins a season, occasionally hit the 10 win mark, with the occasional losing season.

That sounds about right.
Both the schools I root for (GT and Arky) have fans who talk about how they should average somewhere near 10 wins (Arky moreso than Tech obviously) but both can count the 10-win seasons over the last 40 years at least on 2 hands or less with fingers left over. Arky has better resources but they are also looking up at a few programs they can't outman regularly just like Tech.

They made a terrible hire IMO. Never should have fired BP.

The problem with Arkansas football in the last twenty years is that our coaches haven't been able to build programs by sustainable methods, thus leading to roller coaster records where we'll win 8 games, 10 games, then have a losing season(s). Hopefully Bert is addressing that by aggressively building redshirt and walk-on programs, two things that were practically nonexistent in the last two decades.
Houston Nutt relied on Danny Nutt's recruiting to win 17 games his first two years, then bottomed out when those recruits graduated. Then, he was able to take advantage of an uptick in in-state talent with freaks like Matt Jones, Cedric Cobbs and Shawn Andrews, then bottomed out again with losing seasons in '04 and '05. Then, he was able to ride a tidal wave of freakish talent in McFadden, Jones and Peyton Hillis to 18 wins over two years. We bottomed out again when we hired Petrino and those guys left campus, and hit 10 and 11 wins with Petrino when his first two classes gained experience, but it was fools gold because our depth and defensive talent were nonexistent, and the SEC had figured out our passing game. Then we hired Bert, but was he was saddled with a paper thin roster in which the sparse talent had been recruited for an entirely different philosophy.
Again, I'm hopeful that we're alleviating these problems of being a flash-in-the-pan some years by building a sustainable program through a redshirt system and walk-on program.

I question whether Petrino would have been able to keep up his success with the lack of talent on our roster after Wilson and company graduated. Regardless, it's too early to tell if Bielema was the right hire or not yet.
