Jubans Baton Rouge terrible experience tonight

I just had the absolute worst food experience in my entire life at jubans. I cannot explain how disappointed I am because I have heard good things. My wife and I both got steaks that were too rare to even eat (and I like medium rare steaks but ordered medium out of an abundance of caution). We were in a big party so we didn't want to make a scene and send our food back, but our waiter noticed mine when he was picking up everyone's food and insisted on giving me one raw steak to go ( as in completely raw in a vacuum sealed pouch). Fine. When it came time to get the bills (again large party so I don't expect it to go smoothly) it took 55 minutes after we requested our check (the first one was wrong btw) and two visits with our waiter in the hallway to pay our $140 bucks for two glasses of wine, two salads, two bread puddings and a vacuum sealed steak. I am absolutely sick right now thinking about our experience. What was supposed to be a nice night with friends turned into a $140 nightmare and a novel on the food board typed entirely on an iPhone.

That's what I've heard which made it that much more frustrating because I really expected to being my wife for a nice night out.

Sending a steak back to be put on a grill for a few minutes is not causing a scene imo.

Giving you a free raw steak is kinda cool I guess.

55 minutes to get the check is absurd. Was this for the whole table of checks or just you and your wife's?

Just me and my wife. I stepped out and the hall and asked in private for our checks because we were frustrated and had to get back to our 6 month old. And maybe sending a steak back is not making a big scene but I guess I'm just not that kind of person. I tried my best to eat around the edges but even they weren't cooked enough. I opted for the raw steak instead of a cooked one to go because they had already shown once they were incapable of cooking it properly.

That's a real shame. I've been eating often at Juban's over the past few months and it's always been nice. Not spectacular, but really nice.

Big party, little party, if you had raw steaks you couldn't eat you should have said so immediately. Period. Your night wouldn't have hurt so much if you had taken control of the situation in the beginning.

Sorry, that's the bottom line. You don't pay $140 for a disappointing night unless you chose to.

Use this as a life lesson, and don't allow yourself to become a victim ever again.

That could have just been a simple mixup because the rest of the large party wasn't leaving.

What kind of person is that? If something is legitimately undercooked when you ordered medium, the restaurant would rather you send it back so it can be done right. I'm assuming the waiter came by to ask how the food was and you kept quiet. Obviously with him giving you a free steak at the end, he tried to right the problem. I'm sure he would have no problem bringing the steak in the kitchen to cook a little longer. It sucks they cooked the steak to the wrong temperature, but this problem could have been fixed on the spot if you didn't bite your tongue.

My guess is they were busy (Sat. night) and that's when most screwups happen. If you'd have sent it back to the grill they'd have been too busy to be offended.

Surprisingly funny ending

Sounds like you handled things pretty well. I understand not wanting to make a scene while dining with a big party.

May want to draft a letter to Juban's and conclude it with "Can you tell me why I would ever want to return to your restaurant?" I've never done this but I would be interested to know how they respond.

One of my more disappointing dining experiences occurred at Ruth's Chris in Metairie on our anniversary. Now we just look back on it and laugh about it.

Jeez. Asking them to cook a steak for 3 more minutes is making a scene?

Jubans has been average-at best the last 3times I've been there. And I'm not the only one in my group of friends that thinks that. Don't know if I'll be Back anytime soon. Not surprised by your experience.

Why do people feel the need to come on here and tell us about every poor dining experience they have?

Tell the manager. Not us.

His call. For whatever reasons, if he was uncomfortable so doing, then don't.

Really?

Yep. If they're honorable, they'll make a good-faith effort to make it right. And if not, you'll have your answer.

I know it was his call but you agreed with his actions so I thought it would be making a scene to you also.

And if he would have opened his mouth at the table, they would have made it right on the spot. I've never eaten at a nice place and then not come by the table after the food comes out to ask if everything is Ok. That's where they can right any wrongs.

Agreed.
Warm bowl of gravy for that raw beef to swim in and OP would have set.
