On Tuesday, during the big storm, we were watching the WC and heard what sounded like an explosion. Everything switched off for a second and we were good. I go outside to go to work and I just see flames roaring out of the house across from me. Myself and some other neighbors kicked their door in because they werent home and we were worried that they had pets.

Check the house and it's all good, so we go upstairs (where fire is). Kick door in, and smoke is so thick that you could stick your hand out in front of you and not see it. I commando crawl in and can see the faintest glimpse of flames, but had to go back downstairs because I couldnt breathe and my eyes were burning like shite. We get a few buckets of water and kinda just throw it blindly at the flames, and then someone found a fire extinguisher. One of the guys gave me his shirt so I got it soaking wet and wrapped my head in it. Took the extinguisher, ran into the room, and managed to take all the flames out.

Turns out this girl had a window unit that just blew the frick up from a lightning strike. Anyway, I answer questions with firefighters and go to work. I get home that night to find out my AC wont work and all my cable/internet devices are shot, including a bedroom TV. Check the attic to find out that we got struck too. The entire 24V AC system had to be changed and our roof was all kinds of fricked up. Had to replace every Cox device

Questions:

1. Got quoted $600 for roof repairs. Check the pics below and tell me if that sounds a little high. I'm not paying for it, but landlord is a good family friend and dont want him to get shafted, assuming insurance doesnt cover all this shite. Roofing guy said that he would have to pull up shingles and replace the wood and metal underneath because the lightning strike shifted it all

2. The surge that fried all my Cox shite apparently came from the cable line, because everything I had hooked up to regular outlets was okay. Is there some kind of cable line surge protector I could buy? The Cox guy said he didnt know. I know the chances of it happening again are slim, but whatever.

3. Is my bedroom TV totally fricked? Is there any chance I just need to replace the power supply or something? It's just a 42in Vizio so it's not that big a deal, but I'd obviously rather not buy another one

4. Owner of the burning house called me and said he wants to take me out to get a steak. Should I go? He's a judge so I guess it'd be a nice connection to make

Pics:

Girl's room. If she were sitting at her desk, she'd be dead. Her TV melted and all of her clothes and shite were ruined from the smoke. sucks

Outside

blown up window unit

My roof (attic view)

punched a hole in our ductwork

I didn't take many outside roof pics but it was basically a streak down the side with a bunch of rips like these (those arent my old arse hands, they're the roofing guy's )

update:

tv turned on no idea what I did

$600 sounds like a fair price for that amount of roof work...
