I need help from the OT Lounge. Several weeks ago there was a thread regarding the cameras that are set up on the outskirts of Baker on highway 19. I have been working in Zachary alot lately and am mindful to go 45 till you get out of the city limits.

Today I was zoned out and as I passed the camera it flashed me. I was going just over 50. I know I will get a ticket in the mail in a few days for $60 because my wife got one prior to me seeing the thread on the OT Lounge on how to get out of paying the ticket.

If I remember correctly several attornies were actually involved in the thread. Thanks in advance to anyone who could give me a little free legal advice or post a link to the original thread.

you don't "get out" of paying the ticket. You either choose to pay it, or not. Up to you, after weighing the consequences.

Just got one in the mail today. Apparently the camera is portable because this was on Groom Road. Basically, frick you Baker. I will never shop or buy anything there again. Enjoy your $60 you money-grubbing bunch of frickers.

I used to eat and shop there at least twice a month while working in Zachary. I figure about twelve months of boycotting their city will even out the taxes I spend there.

They could post a bench warrant for your arrest if you fail to pay - but, most OT rollers will tell you to "frick that shite and don't pay it".

As I recall the consensus is the tickets are unenforceable because all the photo proves is someone who was driving your car that day was speeding. And it's the driver who is ticketed, not the car.

They can't prove it was you driving unless you admit to it and since you don't have to testify against yourself.....

1. Real tickets will instruct you to contact the court to resolve matter in question while fake tickets (ATS and RedFlex) may tell you not to contact the court. Fake tickets are sent via regular US Postal Mail service, but appear to be "official," which they are not. Criminal citations are sent by registered or certified mail.

2. In Louisiana, RLC and speed camera citations are NOT a criminal offense. They are treated as CIVIL matter, partly because the OWNER of the vehicle is issued the citation (doesn't matter who is driving) and if contested, you won't be awarded the opportunity to go before a judge. Instead, you will have a hearing with an Administrative Adjudication officer (city appointed).

3. CIVIL offenses are NOT reported to the Louisiana DMV or your insurance company.

4. In Baton Rouge, city officials will NOT turn over your Social Security Number to a private company (ATS and RedFlex).

5. If unpaid fine goes on your credit report, simply dispute online with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Ask them to investigate and validate the debt owed. ATS and RedFlex must provide proof that you entered into an agreement for goods or services or signed promissory note.

Paid mine late, they sent me an overdue notice for another $60.
My response was GFY, not paying them another dime, will have a friend run my info to see if there is a bench warrant in a couple of months...

Unless Baker changed their "law," red light and speed camera citations are civil offenses.

I know that this has already been posted on another thread today, but it's just so perfect for these types of threads.

Zachary speed cameras gone in November

quote:

The camera has been placed at different posts around Zachary for the past five years. Since it has been active, the camera has sent thousands of tickets in the mail to speeders. About 20,000 of those tickets have gone unpaid.

City leaders say the tickets are unenforceable because they are not classified as criminal penalties and drive people away from town. Mayor David Amrhein says 75 percent of the city's general fund comes from sales tax and the camera can prevent people from shopping.

If you think for one minute that a company such as ATS or RedFlex, both of whom are located out of state, are going to take the time, energy and resources (think out of state costs, attorney fees and court cost) to go after you in a court of law for a fine of less than $500.00, pay it. If not, go about your everyday business and "risk it."

They won't do it for a red light or camera citation. If they do, it will be for something else.

frick those speed cameras. I always just set my cruise to 45 and stop at every yellow light when I have to go through there.
