The Opening Dream Team

First Team:
Nickel – Donte Jackson – Playing on both sides of the football, there may not have been another prospect that did more. He was picking balls off on defense, returning them for touchdowns, making plays out of the slot on offense. Jackson was another candidate as the overall MVP.
CB – Tarvarus McFadden – Currently uncommitted, McFadden is extremely long, shows great ball skills and was seemingly a regular returning interceptions down the sideline. He has the ability to totally disrupt the gameplan for a quick-game passing team.
CB – Kevin Toliver II – The most physically impressive cornerback on the hoof, Toliver got his hands on a ton of footballs and picked off a huge pass late in the day on Thursday to put his team a shot at the championship. He’s committed to LSU.
Second Team:
WR – Tyron Johnson – For Ricky Town’s Land Sharks team, Johnson became the only consistent deep threat and matchup problem for defenses but he still made them pay regularly.
S – Justin Reid – An uncommitted prospect with range and ball skills, Reid was among the most complete safeties at the event and every time he had an opportunity to make a play, he did.
Justin Reid needs an offer ASAP

I'm trying to set the bar high for this kid but he's looking way better than I did at his age. I need to step it up!

probably....stanford is after him pretty hard because he is a very bright kid

We were just talking about Jackson and Reid being two guys we really wanted before the Opening, and now they will be in even more high demand after it.
Donte is still one of my top wanted players. Kid is just like Adoree from last year in his on-field performance and skillset.

And, with his brother right there, it makes some sense.

What are you guys hearing on him? Do y'all expect to land him?

I don't know the specifics of Donte's recruitment, but in limited TV exposure at the Opening, I was not impressed.
In the semi-final, he was playing defense and the opponents were on a last second drive, and when they threw his way, Donte gave up a huge 40+ reception. They clock ran out the opponents before they could run one more play, so Donte's team ended up in the finals, but he looked lost and couldn't locate the deep ball.
In the finals on defense, the next time they threw his way, Donte easily got beat off the line for a short TD.
He did catch a wide open TD on offense in the finals, but it was a busted coverage.
I know I only saw a handful of televised plays of him on the field, but I honestly thought to myself "This is the guy everyone is raving about?"
Whereas, in contrast, somebody like Xavier Lewis, who made an incredible diving pluck-the-ball-out-of-the-air interception and then shortly after made another diving pass breakup (on Tyron Johnson) in the end zone, I was like, "Wow, this guy is good."

We NEED him in this class..dude is explosive and runs great routes...also has a work ethic that can't be taught....He has the POTENTIAL to come in and see the field a lot his freshman year....

The thing with Jackson is his speed. He has elite speed, and could be very explosive.

From a lot of accounts (you know, the people that were actually at The Opening) this guy was one of the most impressive players there.
Lewis and Reid also did great and will definitely get a nice bump in rankings.

I hope so, I'm going to be pissed if he doesn't.

Who would ya'll rather have a Christian Kirk or Donte Jackson? Based on needs of the team, felt like we missed on something with Speedy but Kirk looks great... same thing with Adoree & Donte like another poster said...
Posted on 7/13/14 at 12:28 pm to LSUFreek
Donte plays for a really weak team and literally has to play all over the field mainly as an offensive threat. Friend of mine use to coach him and has been telling me about him since he was a soph. I don't think you realize how little defense he has actually played in his HS career. He does have decent size, good work ethic, good hands and what you can't teach, elite speed.
