What started with such promise quickly melted in the rain next week vs M o O!
Back on track then the stunning loss OMyth, back on track until the SB beatdown by Nebraska which was not as close as score (was there) but still a good (but not great) 9-3 season!
Games were fun though back then not as expensive and big money business like today.

I think hearing the crowd count down to 0 at the end of every win is one of the things I miss most from the "old" days.

Thanks, that was fun to watch. I'm an old timer of sorts I guess. I remember the days when we were so happy with a 7 or 8 win season.

National Championships were just a dream and not an expectation as it is nowadays. Don't get me wrong, I love the powerhouse that we have become.

I guess I just don't like the instant fan base that showed up around 2003 that have no clue of how it used to be to be a true Tiger fan.

Great post. Brought back so many fun memories. We were all so excited to play Texas A&M again. I'm really happy we will play them every year from now on.

FYI
A&M was 9-3 in 86
Only 2 regular seaon losses were to SEC schools today LSU and Arkansas.
Bowl game loss was to Ohio St.

Ags always claim the big win against Auburn in Cotton Bowl in Jan of 86 beating them and Bo Jackson.
Guess who they loss to during regular season?

Bama

80s and early 90s was heyday for them. They never could make in the top 5 and always had a problem winning bowl games.

Yes, I married an Aggie anyway.

Me too! I can remember sitting thru many disappointing seasons since 1953, the year I started attending games. While there have been some good seasons, we have not enjoyed the great success that started back in early 2000's. While it was always fun being an LSU Alum and Tiger Fan, it's been absolutely fantastic to live in this era of success!!

During the years I attended 63-67, we didn't lose to A&M. Won 4, tied 1. It was a good run!

Great post. Notice how the fans were not all "Logo'd Up". People wore regular clothes and weren't a part of the marketing plan...

Had 2 Aggie HS classmates come to the game and were going to stay at my shack on Violet Street. After the game, they decided to get the hell outta BR.

Since the discussion broadened from just the A&M game to the entire '86 season I think some have forgotten the significance of that year - first SEC championship since '70.

IMO, we were going through a paradigm shift of sorts with Arnsparger. Before then, "success" was beating our rivals (mostly Tulane and OM) and getting a good bowl bid. Bill reintroduced an emphasis on championships.

That was the real significance of '86.
