Is this a decent starter camera to get into digital photography?

I really dont know much about photography (I take 10-50 photos a day due to work but it is only documentation of parts). This camera will be a gift for my girlfriend who has always wanted to get into photography of some sort as a hobby. She will be shooting mostly outdoor landscapes but it will be a general use camera as well. I was planning on getting The Basic Book of Digital Photography as well as a reference guide for her. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Trying to keep the price below $150. TIA.

Looks pretty good, only glaring omission I saw is it takes AA batteries... You'll be burning through them. But a super zoom camera is a good choice for starting out.
