Favorite games growing up

Console, PC, whatever. What are some of the better known, or perhaps less well known, games that first got you hooked? It's not a contest so you don't have to bring out shite you were playing before you could walk. 
Just list some of your fonder memories of early gaming.
Lords of the Realm II
Raise armies, build castles, and conquer the land. Loved this game.
Gabriel Knight II: The Beast Within
Great story, suspense, mystery. And you're in Germany...hunting werewolves. Still one of my favorite games.
Police Quest: SWAT
Very cool game with lots of great information on SWAT teams. I used this game to do a presentation on the creation of the first SWAT teams in elementary school.
Caesar III
Just a classic.
There are tons of others, but let's see what comes to mind for you guys. Hey, it's a slow day here.

I remember how awesome the gore effects were when Soldier of Fortune first came out. They were so realistic!

NFS series before it went to crap. Start wars, Lego, and Tony hawk. Rogue squadron, Lego island, and rock raiders was the stuff.
