The award is for having the lowest waste (as a percentage of total SNAP expenditures), and Florida has a miniscule 0.81 percent factor (the national average is 3.2 percent; the People's Socialist Republic of Vermont has the worst at 9.66 percent).

0.0 is the goal but no human system will ever get that far.

Here's a link to the stats by state (I'm having problems opening it, so anyone who wants to post LA, TX, or any other state, have at it):

That sounds like our government. Only they would think only wasting $47 million to fraud is success.

LA has an error rate of 1.44. Below average. Go us.

I'm confused about why Florida won since Virginia has a rate of .44.

el o el - you get a bonus for keeping your fraud levels down?

I like the first comment on the article:
quote:

EASY FIX.. make the STATE RESPONSIBLE for letting ANY FRAUD slip by... if THE STATE had to REPAY for any fraud amounts.. there would BE almost NONE ALLOWED!

States would implement fraud detection measures with the quickness if this were to happen.
