Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, is worried President Obama’s decision to not visit the U.S-Mexico border while he’s in Texas this week will become his “Katrina moment.”

“I’m sure that President Bush thought the same thing, that he could just look at everything from up in the sky, and then he owned it after a long time,” Cuellar said Monday in a Fox News interview with Neil Cavuto. “So I hope this doesn’t become the Katrina moment for President Obama, saying that he doesn’t need to come to the border. He should come down.”

Obama should at least witness a situation he created himself. It's the least he can do for these children.

He will not come. Why? Because he said it is not an emergency. Why is it not an emergency? Because he said so.

Obama didn't start rumors in Central America.

Right. Because they are no rumors.

Obama's real, boot-on-the-ground policy is no one will be deported.

can't blame this one on Bush.

Bush actually made a good attempt at positive immigration reform. Its one of the few things he did right. (I would add the increase aid to Africa to that)

Obama has seen the border in the pictures that ICE took on their record number of deportation trips to the border during his Presidency.

Just read an article about Perry refusing to meet the President on the tarmac if he wasn't going to have a meeting regarding the border... WH staff was questioned about how it would look that Obama came for 2 days to raise money and didn't visit the border and they said "We're not concerned with how it looks"

Why can't we first secure the border then implement a immigration policy that is currently in place for white collar workers the for hourly workers? That's the compromise.

The right would be happy with a secure border and the left would be happy with future voters and Chamber of Commerce RINOs would be happy with low skilled immigrants. Win, win, win.

I lost all hope when even after 9-11 there was no will to control our southern border.
If not then...

Perry is a big pussy. He needs to send NG troops down to the Texas/Mexico border if the federal government won't do their job. But he gives excuses, "it's the federal government job, we don't have enough money".

But he certainly signed the law that's created this mess with immigrant children

quote:

“This is a piece of legislation we’re very proud to sign,” a White House spokesman, Tony Fratto, told reporters on Dec. 23, 2008, as the president put his pen to the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, named for a 19th-century British abolitionist. “This program has been very effective around the world in trying to stop trafficking in persons.”

Now the legislation, enacted quietly during the transition to the Obama administration, is at the root of the potentially calamitous flow of unaccompanied minors to the nation’s southern border.

Of course I suppose he could ignore the law but then the right would want to impeach him on that.

Still amazing to me that folks like to blame a Cat 5 Hurricane that everyone saw coming... and all the shite that happened in NOLA afterwards ... squarely on Bush.

I read about that last night (Facebook feed from the Dallas Morning News), and all the comments are about how Perry is disrespecting the President.

I'm sorry. I thought Perry was the popularly elected Governor of Texas. I didn't realize that Perry was actually the FedGov-designated regional administrator for the Texas region, and could be replaced at will if he refused to bow and kiss the President's ring.

Beautiful rebuttal to the problem. Blame a guy 6 years out of office.
FTR I blame ANY current prez for not securing the borders.
BHO is prez and he's failing at his job securing the US borders.
Spin away VB!

He needs to be careful, lest FedGov decide to replace him as Deputy Administrator of the Murrieta, CA Sub-Region. (At least that's what Obama wishes he could do.)
