Is this Rangers rotation the worst of all time?

This rotation is an absolute dumpster fire
Yu Darvish is the only one who belongs in the majors and even he is starting to fade under the pressure of being the only guy who can be counted on.
Colby Lewis is past his prime and has been awful since coming back from his injury. The only reason he is in the rotation is because there is literally no one else - Lewis has pretty much given up 5+ runs in each start and rarely goes more than 5 innings. And compared to the other guys in the rotation 5 runs in 5 innings isn't bad.
Tepesch, Martinez, and this new Mikolas guy who has been absolute garbage since coming over - these are all Triple A guys at best. They wouldn't make the roster of any other big league team.
I know losing 4 of your 5 starters for the year will make a bad rotation but I thought the Rangers farm system was good, maybe it still is but they just don't have anyone ready to step in

At least Rick Helling won 20 games and Loiaza ended up being a decent #2 and started an ASG one year.
Rangers had some bad rotations in the early 2000s but even the guys like Ismael Valdez and John Thomson were veterans who had done good things before.

In 2000 they had a 5.52 team ERA. Darren Oliver made 21 starts with a 7.42 ERA

There are several young pitchers in the system now but some are just not ready yet. I think Luke Jackson will be up next (most likely in September) and Chi Chi should be called up sometimes next year.
A lot of depth has been lost over the years because of the trades to get players like Matt Garza, Ryan Dempster, Geovany Soto, Mike Adams, Cliff Lee, etc. The pitching depth has taken a toll but honestly out of everyone who has been traded over the past few years the only ones I think that may have even helped this year would have been Justin Grimm and Neil Ramirez just off the top of my head.
I agree with you about Colby. I didn't like them bringing him back last year on a contract (despite him not pitching) but it appears like it put them in a weird position where they felt they needed to be loyal to him two years in a row and give him another chance. Nothing against Colby at all but he shouldn't have even been considered to have been in the rotation this season even before all the injuries occurred.

Everyone just kind of forgets about Derek Holland, who is pretty good pitcher. He will be back to full strength next season and hopefully Perez rehabs well from TJ surgery. That gives you Darvish, Holland, Perez, which isn't bad. Luke Jackson and Chi Chi Gonzalez should both be ready by the end of next season to fill out the depth. Just need to give it some time for the team to reload and recover.

What about Matt Harrison, or is he done
I don't trust pitchers who get injured over and over again

It happens every Oakland start.
Seriously, he needs to be traded to an NL team where he won't have to face them but once every three years. After next year (when he once again finishes in the top 3 of the Cy Young voting) he'll opt out, and the Rangers won't be competitive anyhow (the Prince and Choo deals have set this club back 6-7 years at least), so why not get something for him?

Harrison is probably done. That Spinal Fusion surgery he had is possibly a career ender. Sucks that this team has so many injuries. 19 players on the DL to be exact.

1) They have traded a lot of their pitching prospects in the last couple of years. I understand why they did it, but it is really starting to be felt.
2) It is better to lose this year than shatter the confidence of young pitchers that aren't quite ready for prime time.

The Rangers have 3/5 of their expected rotation on the DL, which is bound to hurt anyone. But worst ever? No rotation with a legit Cy Young candidate can make that claim. It's bad, but it's not historically bad or anything.
There's an ace, two near league average pitchers, and then just a complete black hole on the back end.

The D-Backs rotation this year has been worse, we will see how it is now that Bronson and B-Mac are gone.

Both of those guys pitched very well for the Rangers for the most part. Of course, I'm just going off of a 10+ year memory.
