So I've previously bought one or two boxes of the reload golf balls from academy. Some of the balls were scuffed, but enough of them were in good shape to where I was satisfied with the purchase.

Well on this last box, I noticed a bunch of the balls have noticeable eggs in them, the same way you would notice eggs in a basketball.

I can only assume that these eggs come from the balls being in the water for some time, but I can't find anything on the internet about golf balls with this problem.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Any idea what causes it or how much it will affect the ball's performance?

If there is an egg in the ball then it will not play well. will wobble in the air. not to mention cant get a true roll on putts

What brand were they? I only use Top Flite and Nike - both have been solid.

i've seen them in rare cases, but not too regularly

are they refinished balls? or just recycled?

unbeweaveable has posted a link several times discussing the changes a golf ball goes through when being submerged for a period of time

i don't think the water effects will have a huge impact on a mid to high handicapper, but a better player should be playing a new ball from the sounds of it

since that article, i've been really reluctant about used balls and haven't bought any in quite some time

Beat the ball back into shape with a 4 iron.

They were the recycled (not refinished) pro-v1's from academy.

Tee up egged ball with egg to the back.
Smash with two iron.
Profit.

Never bought used ones. I only play 5 dollar golf balls.

Who had that egg ball recently? Was that you? Did you find it somewhere?

That was the first I had ever seen a ball like that.

An egged ball will sink out of the air if you managed to hit it flush
