We just got direct tv after leaving Cox. We are trying to watch a show on demand but not even halfway through it says that it can't be downloaded. It did this last night and again this morning. Does anyone know what is wrong?

I assume your internet connection is working fine?

Directv uses the internet for on deman rather than the satellite

The movie has to download before you watch it, or at least start downloading

Yeah my internet connection is fine. I saw that the movie started downloading...really slow. Then it completely stopped. It's more than this movie I tried another one and it did the same thing. I have the lowest internet with cox 5mbs (I think) and my router is pretty old. Would a new router help or do I need to boost my internet? If I have to bump up my internet that sucks because I went with direct to save money not to have to spend more.

5mb is pretty low for streaming video. May need a bump there.

That sucks bc the next highest is 25mbs which is great but it's $63/month! That's double what I'm paying! I had no idea that the on demand would be using internet and not like cox

I have Directv with Cox Internet. On demand works fine with Internet at 25mbps. As you said, at those speeds Cox is $63/month. I had a long time discount with Cox that just expired.

If you are in Eatel's service area, they are offering 25mbps download/10mbps upload at & 38/month for first year and $48/month for the second year with a two year contract. Plus it's 100% fiber. I made the call this morning. Would have long ago if not for the Cox discount I had.

If not in Eatels area, shop around. You always get much better deals as a new customer elsewhere

Yeah unfortunately I'm not in eatel's service area. I just got off the phone with cox and got it for $45 for a year.

When you do the ondemend do you find it easier if you just play right then or record it then play it? Because I hit the record button so it can just download and it's only at 8% and it's been about 5 minutes. I'm still trying to get used to how all this works. Thanks!

This sucks bc I recorded it then about at 50% it stopped and said it couldn't record it. And that's with my higher internet!

That is not correct. They upgraded their tiers months ago. I get 50 Mb/s for $65/month.

Well on their website it says 25mbs for $64/month and I asked the guy what my bill would go up to after the year promo and he said it was going to be $60 something.

We are on the 25mbps plan. We've paid a discounted promotional rate for a year. That time period is over. Our bill is now $63/month. Our service plan didn't change.

Regarding the directv not fully downloading the movie or show, try hard booting the box and router and see if your results improve. (hard booting means unplugging the power cord)

It seems like in the beginning I had that issue as well. You can also go to the network settings on the directv box and run a test. See what the results say.

Thanks Adam I'll try that. It seems right now it's just problems with the HBO one. After upgrading the internet everything else seems to work fine

Mine will download really slow sometimes until I reset my modem and router

Not sure what causes that

My HBO on demand wasn't working on my Directv box and rebooting the DVR got it working again. Unplug the box or press the red reset button under the door where the card goes.

Thanks everyone! I got tired of dealing with it and then all of a sudden when I tried late Saturday night it all worked. I was so glad to watch True Detective...great show so far...only 3 episodes into it.

For HBO is a lot quicker and easier to watch it on my Roku using HBO Go Channel than downloading to the Directv receiver. I can almost start watching instantly on the Roku and it may take a while to download enough to watch on the DTV box.
