Very unlikely scenario, perhaps at the end of the game if one team is trying to stay alive. I know it's not offsides in your own half, but does the half line work like the last defender and it's as long as you're behind the line when the ball is kicked or in this situation do you have to receive it behind the line. Didn't know if there was a special rule involved with this specifically.

Behind the line when the ball is kicked.

It's when the ball is kicked, always.

FIFA Off sides LAW 11

quote:

It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.

A player is in an offside position if:

•he is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent

A player is not in an offside position if:

•he is in his own half of the field of play or
•he is level with the second-last opponent or
•he is level with the last two opponents

I believe that the line would work as the last defender.

I think the old NASL used a "blue line" similar to hockey to mark the limit of offsides. Instead of stopping at the midfield line, the CBs had to stop ~40 yards from goal, thus spreading the game out. I've never heard a review on how well that worked.

This. Huge American error. My club coaches growing up called it offsides, and they were wrong.
