I'll start.

5 years, 45 million, including a 20 million signing bonus. Annual salaries of 7, 5, 5, 4, and 4 million.

Annual cap hits of 11, 9, 9, 8, and 8.

Jimmy gets 20 million in cash up front and earns 17 million in salary for the first three years, and if Drew retires his deal is easier to trade in years 4 and 5.

He'd earn the bulk of his money early (unlike the Gronk deal) and have freedom to move if/when Drew leaves.

I like yours

Do not want a huge backloaded contract. JG seems to be tied to Drews hip.
Need the flexibility to move him if he wants to leave when Drew does.

Would love that contract, but don't think he goes for it. He's got it in his head he deserves top WR money. His agent isn't going to do anything to combat that thought process either.

Perhaps.

But I know for a fact that he has in his head that he doesn't want to play the next two years tagged if he doesn't agree to a long term deal.

Jimmy no longer holds any cards to play. The Saints don't play the sit out game.

37 million over the first 3 years (signing bonus plus salary) is 12.3 per year.

not to technical on the stuff of how cap hits work and what not.. but i originally said 5/45 with 28 guaranteed front loaded.. but if we had to i would be willing to give him 5/52 with 32 guaranteed front loaded or flat.. but thats about the max i would do

That's cool. You have numbers geeks like me to try to help.

How much of that guaranteed is signing bonus? In my scenario, the 20 is a signing bonus that is prorated through the length of the deal. Also, how would you allocate the remaining 17 million over the five years?

I would have the same question about your 5/52 scenario. I like the 10.4 per year average there, and would maybe go with a lower guaranteed number if it's all signing bonus.

Sorry that any discussion of numbers hurts your brain cell.

I love the singular cell.

I just happened to see an Austin Powers meme and felt the urge to say that. We're all friends here and Jimmy is a TE. Those are facts

God I hope you're right. I like jimmy, but I'm not willing to commit too much money to any one player. Pay him what's best for the team and let it work itself out.
