Spinoff border question: What will it take to force action to secure the border?

Since a de facto invasion doesn't seem to be enough motivation, what will it take to get those persons that willing turn a blind eye to the border to change their ways?
massive terrorist attack traced to southern border crossing?
pandemic?

Pandemic, but only if the effects are felt in highly liberal areas. Government doesn't care about the south.

There's nothing we can do. We would have to vote in a non-establishment republican as president who actually cares about the issue. He would have to absolutely guy the staffs of nearly every federal law enforcement agency and replace them with people who care about the issue.
Our immigration system is pretty bad, but it would be a hell of a lot better if it was actually enforced as written.

That's a good one. That would definitely do it. Especially if some cartel shot some kids...we'd "get seriuos about secruring the border" ... whatever that means.
