I have an old IBM Thinkpad at work that I want to start using again...it wont connect to the internet...I have tried the basic stuff like going into the control panel and trying to enable the connections, both WIFI and LAN but it always fails...it is running Windows XP...any suggestions?...I am not an IT type...but have some basic knowledge...TIA

What color though. For instance one of my laptops would illuminate blue for on and amber for off, so it's lit up either way. You might look up the user manual for the laptop and see if it has any details about the wifi indicator.

I did hit Funtion F5 and it brought me to a maintenance page that allowed me to "turn on" the wireless radio...the color of the light didn't change..its always green...problem is my office is all LAN and no wifi so...i will have to take it home to see if I have corrected that issue...what about it not hooking up to the LAN?

Your office may block random computers from connecting..

well i have two LANs...one is secure...as in it will not let randoms hook up...i would never even try this on that one...the other is unsecure...and I have used it with my personal laptop before...this computer is a no go on that one...i tried it through a switch and then directly into the jack in the wall...no joy either way...

Sounds like either a driver issue or malware.
The quickest and easiest thing is to check Device Manager to see if there are any conflicts/issues.
Right-click on My Computer, go to Properties. Click on the Hardware tab then Device Manager. Does anything there have an X or ? next to it?
