Players Union tells Free Agents to prep for lockout with payment plan

Specifically, the letter – which was written by interim executive director Ron Klempner – advised players who are free agents to use a provision which allows them to be paid over 18 months instead of 12 during the course of a season. The provision was negotiated into the current collective bargaining agreement during the negotiations that ended the 2011 lockout.
"We suggest that you consider including this provision in any multi-year contract you negotiate, specifically for the 2016-17 season," Klempner wrote. "An 18-month payment schedule for 2016-17 will allow a player to continue receiving paychecks throughout the 2017-18 season, even if the players are lockout that season."
The players, in essence, are being advised to learn from their mistakes of the past. In the 2011 lockout, as Klempner detailed, NBA owners utilized provisions such as these in their own revenue streams as a way of surviving the six-month-long standoff.

I think this is more posturing and strengthening their position than anything to worry about, but we knew from the moment the last CBA was signed there might be another fight in 5 years over the new TV money.

It's smart.
If the players can afford to hold out longer the next go around, they might not get their asses kicked like they did in the last CBA.

No one argued feeding your family was free...however when you make millions of dollars a year you should not be living pay check to pay check.

Not my damn culture If I was making millions, there's no damn way I would be living paycheck to paycheck. I'm no where close to being a millionaire and I don't live paycheck to paycheck now. I do budget and watch my money though which is something these guys have no clue on how to do that.
