In the last few games I've seen the caption a couple of times when a player gets a yellow that he "is out for the next game"

How many yellows does a player need to get in how many games to be banned for a game? And they said at some point the yellows were wiped clean. When is that?

And it looks like the player actually gets to complete the game he is currently playing when the accumulation is reached. Is that correct? And what happens if he later gets a red in that game? Is he out for two games?

Two yellow cards from the start if group play thru the Quarterfinals = suspension.

They are wiped clean after the Rof8 match with the idea that no one will be suspended for championship match due to accumulation of yellow cards

The main reason they have the accumulating yellows rule is so that there is a consequence for a single yellow within a match. You may not be sent off immediately, but the idea of having to miss a match for two accumulated yellows can act as a deterrent, to prevent players from just getting a yellow every match without consequences.

And it kinda makes sense. Except that in the modern game the card accumulation rule is a little outdated. It should be 3 yellows IMO. Referees are being influenced by diving or by simply not seeing the play and dishing out yellows that aren't warranted. It's too subjective of a rule for such harsh punishment.

At the very least, there should be some kind of post game video review of the play to make sure the card was rightly handed out.

I agree with post game reviews of controversial cards.
In a perfect world the diver would get a card for simulation.
