Kaplan ACT Prep Course

Is this worth it? I have a high school senior with a low 20's score. Looking to add a couple of points if possible. The course costs $700 and requires a good deal of time. I haven't heard good things about any of the prep courses. We've taken the test twice and got the same score both times.
TIA.

Just buy some prep materials and tell your kid you'll give them the $700 i they study hard and raise their score.

Like others have mentioned, if you just want a 2 or 3 point bump, then hit up Barnes & Noble (or Amazon) for the practice books and have him take the practice tests (after review) in as close to test-like conditions as possible. For that matter, just taking the test twice might make the difference, assuming you review the score sheet and note the weak areas after the first go round.
If you're really looking for a 5+ point bump, maybe letting the high paid "pros" run the program is worth it.

Seriously, 700 bucks for a couple of points could pay huge dividends if it means qualifying for TOPS.

I think you'd be better off just retaking the test a few times. Get the prep books like everyone else suggests.

Well, this is kind of the second part of the question.
Is 700 bucks the most efficient or economical way to bump a low 20's score up a couple of points? No way.
However, if you pay 700 dollars to the pros, will they be able to bump his score up a couple of points after the course. Virtually guaranteed.
So, if money isn't an issue and you just want the sure thing, then yeah, pay the cash.

Going for an athletic scholarship? If not, I would steer your child toward a trade and not waste money in college.

One of my friends was stuck on 25 after a few tries so his mom made him take the kaplan course with the tutor and he bumped his score up to a 30.

Doesn't sound like your kid is college material.

If we can get it up by two more points, we qualify for $3500/year in scholarship monies at the school we are looking at.

It really comes down to motivation. If your child is motivated to spend hours practicing the book work and taking many tests to get use to time control, then he is motivated to do the work on his own. In class they show you a few techniques and then you apply them on your own. I bet you could even find all of those techniques online in a youtube video or other site.
