Texas-Oklahoma segment of Keystone spouts big dividends, says study

Just for something new to discuss this morning.
Waiting on Obama
quote:
A new study claims that a just-built 485-mile stretch of the Keystone XL pipeline has been a huge economic boon for two dozen rural and poor Oklahoma and Texas counties—and will create the same significant impact in five other states if the project’s long stalled northern segment ever wins White House approval.
As the debate rages over the future of the $5 billion mega-project, a team of university researchers has released a report showing the economic benefits of Keystone’s Gulf Coast Pipeline, which just opened in January after 17 months of construction, linking Cushing, Okla., and Nederland, Tex. The study by the Maguire Energy Institute at Southern Methodist University says the pipeline has pumped $3.6 billion into the Texas economy and $2.1 billion into the Oklahoma economy, while creating thousands of jobs directly and indirectly. It has also boosted tax revenues by millions of dollars, according to the study.

Temporary jobs with no signficant long-term effects on productivity.
And yet Republicans keep stonewalling infrastructure (roads, bridges) jobs that would bring permanent economic benefits.

Hard to afford roads and bridges when we are supporting illegals.
And how is building roads and bridges a permanent job? I've never seen more people that sit on their asses than the road construction crews.
How is the Keystone pipeline insignificant?

I'll bet my wiener costume (Halloween present from boss) against your dog costume that after the midterms Obama okays the pipeline.

Once built it will only provide about 400 permanent jobs. The oil, itself, will be shipped overseas.

Building the roads and bridges are not permanent jobs, but maintaining them are. Much more importantly, however, roads and bridges open new avenues for commerce and help to eliminate wasteful transportation gridlock. Time is money.

You could use your above statement about roads and bridges to make the argument for the pipeline. You do realize these things have to be maintained and aren't just abandoned after construction right?

Public funds v Pvt funds. Idiot.

The oil is being transported here anyway. The point is to reduce overall costs, danger to the environment and avoid potential rail disasters. As you can see from this graph, rail deliveries from Canada have spiked over the last three years while Obama has dithered (for his railroad buddy, Warren Buffet?)

So?
The short term benefits are not enough to warrant the endangerment of Nebraska's water supplies.

Go look at a map showing pipelines. That has to be the worst argument you could use for this project.

How many permanent jobs are "created" by maintaining roads and bridges. The jobs are created by building them. After they are built, those jobs are gone.
You don't make sense.

After I was introduced to the videos last night, I can't take him seriously.
I read every post and picture him with that big dog head and those huge dog paws. It makes it much more fun.

Someone needs to make a video of him air humping like a puppy.

I wish I could do that stuff.
"Look at me. I have a dog head. I have human hands".
I'm still shocked that a sane person dresses as a dog and makes videos.
