My early vote for best album of 2014 (with Temples' Sun Structures in a close 2nd)

I've never been huge on The Walkmen, but goddamn, I love this album from Leithauser and it really is a lot different than any Walkmen release. I honestly love every track, but here are my highlights:

The Silent Orchestra
Alexandra (first single released)
I Retired
Self-Pity
I Don't Need Anyone
St. Mary's County
11 O'clock Friday Night
Can't seem to find a good audio or video link to the others. There is some live footage out there.

I highly recommend giving this album a listen.

I'll respond to your thread. I don't know who this person is, but I'll listen to some of it.

I hate when people ignore my threads

Lead singer of The Walkmen. Made a solo album while they're on hiatus. As I said in the OP, it really isn't much like any Walkmen release I've heard, outside of Leithauser being on vocals.

The songs are a lot less rock-influenced and are far more intricate than and Walkmen I've heard. Just a lovely album, IMHO.

Couldn't disagree more, but I'm really likeing it. I love the Walkmen but they've always been a bit too complicated for just casual listening, you either love it or turn it off. This might be the loosest I've ever heard him, including the fireeater stuff.

Maybe that wasn't the best way for me to put it. I just find it to be far more diverse and eclectic than most Walkmen.

It's just like, my opinion, man.

They have a number of songs that I absolutely love, but as a whole, I don't go nuts over them like a lot of my friends and people I know do.
