Where are y'all at during all the badass weekly songwriter nights that happen all over the city.
Songwriters in the round every Wednesday at Chelsea's
Juke Joint Jubilee every Thursday at red star
Red dragon does a songwriter night every Wednesday
So where are y'all?

I'm usually jamming out to the 11.29.97 Runaway Jim on repeat at Ms. Mae's playing Air Hockey

obviously not many people find those songwriters to be badass

The people who complain about shows are the ones who never go to them IMO

Why are u so butt hurt right now?
Posted on 6/26/14 at 9:01 pm to Andre
Just wondering how people who are never seen at shows have any idea of the shape of a music scene
Posted on 6/26/14 at 9:05 pm to CottonWasKing
Who are you referring to?

All college towns have open mics...

Most people on this board define a good music scene as a place where their favorite bands come to play.
No matter how diverse, unique or populated music might be in a city, if its not their sound, it sucks.

These aren't open mics
These are invited established songwriters from baton rouge.
And they're as solid as pretty much any scene barring Austin and they could hang with the best there

BR has a great local music "scene". The ones that criticize it aren't the ones at the shows at chelseas, the spanish moon, the varsity and red dragon every weekend.
or at langiappe records in store shows... or at radiopalooza. or at white light night. or at north gate fest... or at a house show...
this guy played a show last weekend with a ton of other songwriters and he was incredible...
Luke Ash
peter simon, another good BR songwriter, singer of minos the saint

you see this all the time with people around town who complain about the "music scene" but are never at any of the shows...

That's great and all for br, but creating a thread just seems a little insecure.
Posted on 6/26/14 at 9:38 pm to Andre
I don't think it's insecure, just an observation.

When people hear the term "songwriter" they think folk singer or some kind of hipster stuff. This is BR, people here want techno or 80s rock covers. Folk singers and solo acoustic type stuff just isn't popular in this town.

the party crowd, sure. but BR has plenty of real music lovers, and they show to to shows that are promoted from what i've seen. sometimes the crowds will even surprise you
