Interesting read on the pay disparity of US players.

Mobile so I can't really produce quotes easy, but it's a good read.

The least paid player on the team is Yedlin at 92k.

Ronaldo makes 52mm from his club, while Dempsey made 7.8mm last year.

Moneyball, baby.

Also, Howard and Guzan are fricking bargains.

According to link in OP, World Cup generates $4B in revenue for FIFA, whereas Olympics generate $500B. 4 vs. 500. Would never have guessed that.

I guess. I mean 1 sport tourney vs a festival of like 50 sports.

He gets 76k for going to the world cup. So he'll make almost his salary in a few games

Not surprising

hell Bradley or Dueces salary alone is more than a few MLS teams all together.

This article isn't very well researched, so I find it a little suspect. First of all, Ronaldo's salary is not 52 million from his club. I'm not sure where they got this number. All other sources say that he makes 21m euros after taxes, per year.
quote:

The team captain’s stock soared after he scored his first goal in the World Cup against Ghana at the 34-second mark, the fastest goal scored in U.S. tournament history.

29 seconds. And Dempsey's stock isn't soaring. No one is looking to buy him from Seattle.
quote:

After straining his left hamstring in the U.S. opening 2-1 win against Ghana, the 25-year old failed to play Portugal on Sunday and has been ruled out of the match against Germany.

Jozy is 24.

While I agree with you about the article, the income tax rate in Spain is 44% (someone correct me if necessary. That is just a figure I saw elsewhere regarding La Liga contract buy-outs). That would put Ronaldo's salary at around $52 million a year before taxes. I would assume that the US players' salaries are expressed the same way.

I especially like how she painted Schweinsteiger as a bench player to drive home the salary disparity between the two teams.

If the income tax rate is 44%, then 52 x .44 = 22.44 million paid in taxes. If he was actually making 52 million euros, then after taxes CRon would take home 28.56 million euros. She also sites another of her own articles as her source, and that "article" (see: slideshow) doesn't have sources either

I meant 52 million USD, not EUR.

21 EUR/.56=37.5 EUR
37.5 EUR to USD = ~$51
