I'm editing some dive videos from a recent trip, and I'm not sure what format to render them in. I am planning on making both a Blu-Ray disc and uploading them to YouTube.

The video is HD, hence the BRD. TIA.

ETA: I tried MP4, but apparently none of my media viewers liked it, which I found odd. There's also a chance that the power shut off in the middle of rendering due to a storm, so the file might've been corrupted.

Just said format wasn't supported. I'm leaning toward computer lost power and it corrupted the file.

H.264 is what I'd recommend for YouTube. I don't know about bluray, though. H.264 will work for it, but I'm sure there is a better format that will utilize the space more.

probably corrupted.
you could try vlc player, but i would think all would play mp4

now for your settings
without knowing what you are editing with i will list a few settings you can look for in your program.
the other question is what bitrate did you film and what bitrate do you want to render.

i will assume 1080p 59.94 fps

output settings

mp4
1920 x 1080
progressive
aspect-square pixels (1.0)
ntsc
profile - high
level - 4.2 (with 720p i use 4.1)
bitrate encoding - cbr (youtube works better with cbr than variable bitrates)
mbps - 20 (this will depend on what bitrate the original file is and what size you want to make the file.
i usually use between 15-20 depending on the work being done.
entropy coding - cabac
