Rand Paul discussion on MSNBC

What's interesting is people assume this is an automatic for dem victories.

I honestly never understood why forfeiture of suffrage continued after a con had "paid his debt." With the exception of certain types of high commitment criminals who require continued monitoring (such as sex offenders), the state should kick you loose once you do your time.

Rand is impressing more and more with his unconventional style. But my God is he going to get killed in the primaries.

It should be up to the individual states.

The voting age should also be raised to 21.

Rand is going to destroy the competition.

It is. But the Feds do the same thing for federal convictions.

Would you mind justifying denying ex- cons the right? Voting isn't a privilege, you know.

21 y/os are just as stupid as 18 y/os. If you really want to raise the age and have an impact, it should approach 26 or so. Try telling that to the 100s of thousands if 18-20 y/os under arms, though.

This board is not representative of all southern thinking. This idea alone will piss off a number of southern voters.

A felon should have ALL rights restored after their sentence/parole/probation is served and all fines are paid. To not restore ALL rights is blatantly unconstitutional. This includes gun rights and the right to vote. This should come with stricter penalties for many crimes however.

I think of Red when this topic is brought up. Only guilty man in the pokey. I'd have no problem with him getting the right to vote again after forty years. Of course seeing as to how he ended up in Mexico anyway, it wouldn't make a difference at the polls.

I tried to watch the video, but I couldn't listen to that liberal bitch.

"His party is trying to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands, if not millions of voters."

Yeah, asking for a FREE government ID is trying to keep people from voting...

If someone is that dangerous, they need to be in for life without parole.

But I agree, once a felon has paid his debt (including all terms of parole or probation), s/he should regain his/her right to vote. Unless they were convicted of voting fraud--then I would make such forfeiture permanent.
