Why not just get better collar stays?
I buy Orvis shirts so I know what you're talking about, but I don't see them in true dress shirts.

I don't wear a tie on most days, and I want to wear the hidden button shirts with no tie.

Just get these magnetic collar stays. Yeah their expensive relative to what you actually get but they are awesome...

They are pretty cool, but don't tell anyone you're wearing them. My co-worker told another one of my co-workers that he was wearing them and for the next hour at lunch he was picking the damn magnet out of his shirt because the other guy kept pulling his collar apart.
