I remember when I was younger I absolutely loved those old Marx Brothers movies. Heck I still find myself quoting some old Groucho lines in certain situations.

But I haven't seen any of them in years and I don't know how they have held up. I know I tried to watch some old Three Stooges stuff a year or so ago. I also loved that as a kid but found it almost unwatchable now. I wouldn't think the Marx Brothers would have aged as badly but I'm not sure.

Classic comedy. When I see one of their movies is on TV, I pretty much always watch.

A lot more thought is in the plot of a Marx Brothers film - although the overlay is still slapstick.

Just Groucho's jokes keep your brain engaged.

I like to watch Harpo as the smiling face of pure chaos.

Did Scruffy adapt this from a Dr. Peter Venkman statement?

I love them and own them all. Unfortunately, while I was brought up to appreciate vaudeville, it's list on most of today's generation and certain references are just lost.

Maurice Chavalier is one that comes to mind.

That being said, I have sat down with my kid to watch them, and gets much of what is going on. I think the hold up with guidance, but it wouldn't do well if they were rereleased in theaters I'm afraid.

I thought it was funny in 2014 to ask if movies made in the 1920/30's "hold up". Just an funny turn of phrase to use on movies that old. ANYWAY I adore the Marx Brothers. I own every film and truly hold them, and Groucho in particular, as personal heroes. I actually get angry when they are compared to the 3 Stooges. To me it's like comparing Carrot Top to Carlin.

It's always been a thrill to watch one of the early (read: "good") films with people who don't like early films. It's never not been a treat. But you gotta be smart and like having to look up references. A almost 100 year old film necessitates research and a love of comedy.

In conclusion, I'm a snotty prick...

They're great although I have to fast forward through the musical scenes (the musical style is just not to my taste). The street vendor scene in Duck Soup - what a laugh. Duck Soup is the best.

I recorded A Day at the Races off of TCM about a week or so ago. A big part of the entertainment for me is just seeing how different things were back in the day when my parents were children.

Groucho's game show, You Bet Your Life, was on the air when I was a kid. It was really just a vehicle for Groucho's wisecracks. He was such a likeable old fellow. It was sad to see him go.

Never been much of a Stooges fan but I love the Marx Brothers. Groucho's my fav. Really hasn't been anybody like Marx Brothers since the Marx Brothers, just imitators.
