GOP Wonders What The Hell It Will Do About Rand Paul's Foreign Policy

The GOP establishment is in a bind, because most Americans, Republicans and Democrats, agree with Paul.

quote:

The divisive role that Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has played within the Republican Party on matters of foreign policy was amplified on Friday amid ongoing chaos in Iraq.

At a gathering of social conservatives in Washington, D.C., Paul’s call for more measured U.S. engagement -- if not outright restraint -- was criticized by fellow attendees, including a potential rival for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

In an interview with The Huffington Post outside the Faith and Freedom Conference, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), a 2012 presidential candidate, offered a message “to the Rand Paul types” within his party.

“You can see what happens when America creates a vacuum,” Santorum said. “Other people fill it, and it is not to our security interests.”

Paul's remark that President Barack Obama wasn't to blame for the rise of Sunni militants in Iraq drew even more admonishment from the neoconservative wing of the party, which has begun openly fretting about the possibility that the Kentucky Republican could end up becoming the GOP standard-bearer.

A lot of money to be lost when we stop building things that explode.

We'll still be spending plenty of money on that for the foreseeable future. No worries

The neoconservative wing of the Republican Party was responsible for that shitshow in the first place. Why in the frick should anyone listen to a damn thing they have to say in the first place?

Sounds he's saying we never should have gone in there in the first place. I can agree with that.

You would think he would have learned to shut the frick up about foreign policy after Ron Paul made him look like a petulant child in the 2012 Primary Debates.

There is no politician I dislike more than Santorum.

The neocons can go frick themselves. They are better than the left only in that they purport to want less of my money.

I'm not so sure about that. The difference is they want your money for different things, but at least the leftist would keep that money in the U.S.

I don't think you know what the word purport means.

The GOP seems to be fit into three factions right now.

1) The neocons (probably less than 1 percent of the voters, but a pretty large number of politicians), those lovers of deficit spending and war-mongering. They completely f'd the party so badly it led to Obama's win in 2008.

2) The Tea Party (probably 30 percent of the voters), who have some good ideas, but have this bad penchant of having the worst public speakers among them as the ones who run for office and purport to be the "leaders" of the movement. Many of them also seem to care more about saying "no" then actually offering realistic solutions (realistic being the important word).

3) The rest of the GOP (probably 70 percent of the voters) who are annoyed at the other two and just want the party to show some intelligence and reason. These people seem to be gathering around Rand.

You forget the staunchly religious. They make up a pretty healthy percentage.

Hmmm. To me, it seems like most of them fall into the Tea Party group.

There is some crossover but I wouldn't lump them together.

More importantly, we can't maintain the petrodollar, which maintains our entire economy, without being involved militarily in the Middle East.
