If I could pay them a lump sum of 40,000 and never have to hear from them again. I would say that's a good deal. lump sum as opposed to paying them the rest of their lives on welfare I will take the lump sum everytime.

Really? Are you going to start an argument on a beautiful saturday morning? You know we are talking about decendents of slaves that have been screaming reparations. One more time a lump sum of 40,000 and you and your decendents are no longer on the govt teat.

I am sorry this computer doesn't have spellcheck and I don't know how to spell decendent.

It is, however, a nonbinding resolution, and no tax money will change hands as a result of its passage.
this is why I did not post it the other day.

There are more non-blacks on government assistance in the U.S. than there are "descendants of slaves."

And do you think reparations are meant to replace other government handouts? The demands for reparations are IN ADDITION TO government assistance programs.

And with 39 million African Americans in the U.S. according to the 2010 census, that would mean your $40,000/ea would cost 1.6 trillion dollars.

Ok so I guess the answer to my question is yes.

No there aren't, but that has nothing to do with this discussion.

Oh well take the lump sum or sign here that you refused payment.

Still cheaper than paying them the rest of their lives.

The agenda for Tuesday’s meeting gave no sign that reparations would be a topic. The “Juneteenth Resolution,” commemorating the day slaves in Texas learned of their freedom, seemed from its description to be just another routine proclamation. Others approved on Tuesday expressed support for Men’s Health Month — it’s June — the American Kidney Fund, and an employee in the tax office who’s been on the job for 25 years.

But Price’s resolution went beyond taking note of Juneteenth;
They had to pass it to see what was in it.

First make one prove that they are a direct descendent of a slave. Second subtract 30% off the top for not being the original slave. Then take a 10% reduction for every year since the abolishment of slavery (148-149yrs, off the top of my head) this should give a "pro-rated" amount. Make it not applicable for those born after May 17, 1954(brown vs. Board of education final deciding day) as on this day everyone was given a equal opportunity for education. This should narrow the field of payment and amount of payment substantially.
What about those born after the date you say? Make this a welfare fund stating that benifits are not to exceed $40,000 in the span of ones life, benefits will be subject to a 40% gift tax per payment on benefits, one shall not be eligible to take lump some payment but shall be given an option on a 1 time withdrawal of a maximum 20% withdrawal from funds. Funds will stay in a personal account until said account is withdrawn to a zero balance. After a zero balance is reached, get a job. Oh yea don't bring up that slavery shite either once you've been paid.
Problem solved, your welcome

Or just tell them to be thankful for the unfortunate sacrifice of their ancestors that ultimately resulted in them now being in the current greatest nation on earth.

The issue isn't whether we should pay reparations.

The issue here is a whole bunch of people voted for and approved something even though they had no idea what it was.

And then they complain that they should have been given a copy of what it was before they voted on it.

Just like stupid government. Instead of blaming someone else, take the blame yourself. You could have asked what the resolution was. You could have asked for discussion on the motion. They could have done any number of things.

They chose the stupid thing and then blame everyone but themselves, the idiots who actually voted for a resolution they had no knowledge.

Just a point of information for those posters who are not familiar with the details of the reparations bill constructed by Prof. Ogletree.

Slave reparations calls for ZERO direct cash transfer from the taxpayer to black citizens. So, the average black college student who thinks reparations = govt sending him a check for $50,000..nope. Ain't happening that way.

The plan calls for a massive transfer of money from the taxpayer to Institutions which serve the black community...the checks go to UNCF, NAACP, Section 8 Housing, Urban Job Training programs, Black Museums, etc. And, of course, a big chunk of the money will go to lawyers and burocrats who will administrate everything.

A person can be anything he wants to be on the internet. Why do you choose to be stupid?

Percent of recipients on welfare who are African Americans: 39.8%.

Percent of recipients on welfare who are NOT African Americans: 60.2%.
