If you're ready to switch to Android without a subsidized upgrade then the Nexus 5 is probably as good as it gets at $349 LINK / You also might consider refurbs if you just want something to get you to your next upgrade. Have you looked into repair costs? It might be better than buying another phone.

I need to do that. That would be an option for sure.

Iphone 5c. Dropped it and it's flickering and buzzing and the screen is cracked.

The Moto G is a great phone. You can get a 16gb new for $200. If you want to go super cheap for a phone that runs well the Lumia 520 is around $60.

Sounds like you'll need a new screen assembly and possibly something else, but you should be able to come under what a new Nexus 5 or Moto X would cost. But, like the guy above me said, if you don't need top of the line the Moto G is OK for the price and the Lumia 520 (windows phone ) is surprisingly good for the price. My wife tried it out for a while.

If you want to stick with iphone, a used 4S can be had for probably 200-300 on eBay.

It looks like the Apple Store started repairing screens at the beginning of the year. $149 for an iPhone 5C according to this article. LINK You might be able to save $25-$50 going to one of the local repair places, I've used My Phone MD on my 4S and it cost around $95 and took about 45 minutes while I waited.

I sadly had to go through 2 screens before I learned a super bulky case was a necessary part of life, so a warning on the screens from the local repair shops and potentially a reason to go to the Apple Store for repair. Apple doesn't sell replacement screens and the equivalent screens local shops use can look pretty different. Screen replacement #1 was noticeably darker than my original, although I got used to it. But screen replacement #2 was bright and similar to original quality.

Also, the buzzing sounds like it could be something besides the screen. Make sure you get that diagnosed and estimated too before getting your screen repaired.

That's what I was gonna recommend. Windows Phone is an excellent OS and the Nokia 520 will fill your needs with no problem.

I just got a moto g and I love it. $200 unlocked no contract. Although not as fast as my gs4, I find it smoother and think its a great way to first experience android coming from iOS.

There's also a Moto G with LTE and a MicroSD card slot available now. Approximately $220 of contract.

Yeah I actually have the 4g and paid that much.

Also look at the moto e, not quite as good but at $130 will certainly be easy pill to swallow to hold you over.

Where did you buy it? Was it online? I'd like to check one out in person. I have an S3 and my contract is up in November. I'm considering going the non-contract route with my next phone.

I'm pretty sure most of the repair places cell used phones as well. I bought one in the past and it was a whole lot cheaper than going through my provider.

I bought it directly from Motorola but you can get them on Amazon as well. Not sure where you could see a floor model, as I think only verizon sells them as a go phone, otherwise they are sold as no contract GSM. Maybe Boost mobile store?

I know I am just some guy on the internet, but I can assure yu the build quality is rock solid. Although it is heavier than the Galaxy, and a bit thicker, I feel like this phone fits in your hand better tan any other phone I have ever held.

You could always order one on amazon and return it...the box it comes in is unsealed so you could at east buy one and see it for yourself before committing. I did this and returned mine when I found out the 4G would be out within a month.

I kid you not, this phone has changed the way I will be buying phones from now on and makes me feel almost ashamed of spending on the galaxy. I truly think it is a game changer and will help to make phone prices more reasonable because someone will have to compete with it at that price point.

If you are just concerned with no contract, I can almost assure you the Moto X at $350 is a beast of a phone based on the Moto G, and still $150-200 less than galaxy or iphone retail.

You are mirroring my line of thought. I am wanting a slightly smaller screen. My biggest concern is the lack of a removable battery. I have 4 batteries for my S3. I'm hoping the Moto X + 1 might have a removable battery, but I realize that's just a pipedream. I'll probably get a Moto X and just swap the Sim card back to the S3 on days I need more battery life.

yeah I'm not sure why the designed it where you can remove the back and not the battery, but battery life hasn't been an issue thus far.

I can say pretty confidently the moto x will impress you as even the moto g has impressed me coming from an s4. The galaxy has its moments, but this is overall just a better piece of equipment.

It's how android is supposed to be; thats the best way I can describe it. Get out of the upgrade cycle, the cell providers are moving away from it so go ahead and break the cycle now.

I have no doubt I'd love the Moto line. I'm running Cyanogen 11, so I'm pretty confident I'd also love stock Android. The only way I'll buy Samsung again is if I can't get past the battery issue. Samsung's bloatware completely destroys the experience. My phone runs 100 percent better on cyanogen.
